Need some help with a chord progression...

I've got a song I need to learn that's driving me crazy with its chord progression! The song is called "Blame it on Yourself" by Ivy. You can listen to it here: Blame it on Yourself

This is what I've got so far, I could really use a second opinion on a few of these chords, especially the chorus:

Intro:
Bm7 - E6/9

Verse:
Bm7 - Dmaj7 - E6/9 - Amaj7

Chorus:
D6/9 - Amaj7

The thing I'm really unsure of is the D6/9 in the beginning of the chorus. The bass is playing a line over that chord that begins on a D and ends on a B and I can't tell if it's supposed to be some sort of D chord or some sort of Bm chord. There's also an instrument playing arpeggios up high playing E-F#-B over the first chord and then E-F#-C# over the second chord.

This is what I've been playing that is the closest I can figure to something that works for those chords in the chorus:

D6/9(add11) Amaj7
-2-3-3------------4-4----
-5-5-5------------5-5----
-4-4-4------------6-6----
-0-0-0------------6-6----
--------------------0-0----
----------------------------

Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm not feeling too confident in my assessment and could use a second opinion or two.

Ok, I just had a revelation that it sounds like the intro and the chorus are the same chords and maybe I have the intro wrong. This is how I had been playing it:

Bm7_______E6/9
-------------------7------7
-7-8-8-8-8-----7-7-7-7-7-
-7-7-7-7-7-----6-6-6-6-6-
-7-7-7-7-7-----6-6-6-6-6-
-X-X-X-X-X-----7-7-7-7-7-
-7-7-7-7-7-----0-0-0-0-0-

But I'm wondering if I was just hearing the B note in the first chord because it's in the D6/9 chord and the second chord is supposed to be an A chord of some type like this:

D6/9________Amaj13add9
-2-3-3-3-2-------7-------7--

-4-4-4-4-4-------6-6-6-6-6

OH MY GOODNESS, someone else in the universe who knows who Ivy is!

The first chord of the chorus sounds like a Dm9 to me... The E6/9 you're using in the chorus also sounds like a straight up E9 to me.

The intro also sounds like an Am7 lick with a D on the bottom when the bass comes in.

D11 - AMaj9.

I would probably use Jon's voicing as that has that open E on top, that I think fits nicely, although I personally used this one:

x5x553 (Alternating between 3 and 2 to create the suspended/released sound.)

As best I can tell, the second chord is voiced as follows:

x07997

It honestly is a bit tricky, because it's tricking you into thinking that it's in the key of G with that 11 chord.

With the E6/9 do you mean the one in the verse? If so I think you're right, but now I think it's a Em9 making the chord progression go like this:

Bm7 - D - Em9 - Amaj7
-------------------------
-7------7------7-----5
-7------7------7-----6
-7------7------5-----6
-X------5------7-----0
-7------X------0-----X


I like the chord voicing you showed for the first chord of the intro letting the E drone on top, I don't know why I was hearing a B in there so much... On the second chord I still like the voicing I posted in my second post. I just really hear that B on top followed by an F# really strongly so I'm leaning more toward Amaj13 than Amaj9

The question though is this: are these two chords Am7 - E6/9, or D11 - Amaj13??
Because that really makes a huge difference in the structure of it...

Also now I'm confused about the first chord in the chorus because I can't tell if a Dm9 or a D11 fits best. They both somehow seem to work which is throwing me off. I'll play it through with a Dm9 and it seems to fit, but then I'll play it again with the D11 and it also seems to fit... Hmm

I guess it's not like I'm soloing over these progressions so as long as it works that should be good enough. It's still bothering me that I can't figure it out though...

This was actually the first I'd been turned on to Ivy, but I really dig the song. I'll have to check out some of their other stuff. Any recommendations?
