Theremin

Does anyone own one of these obscure instruments, or know how to play one?

You play them by waving your hands, basically. They are notoriously impossibly hard to play in tune, although there are a number of real virtuousos out there. They're not really that obscure, but don't get one unless you have good relative pitch and are willing to put a lot of practice into it, as otherwise it will just sound aggravating. Get a flanger or strong chorus pedal instead if you want something kind of like the sound without the effort, or additionally an eBow (though this takes almost as much work to sound good).

My dad and I were going to make one, but never got around to doing it. I think I'm gonna look into it more now that I have a lot of spare time on my hands. :-\

If you curious to see how it works, just youtube it....

(i also play bass...theremin on the side at church) Woo! We'll see how it goes! Hope its okay to reply to this even though its a few months old!
Godspeed.
