Kanye's latest shows that he can evolve as an artist, drop the ego, and make a sad, paranoid R&B album with more than enough gems to be worthwhile.
I would argue Kanye has always been overly paranoid and neurotic. He's basically Woody Allen with a drum machine.

I would also argue he didn't drop any sort of ego with 808s. If anything he's now just whining about being the greatest performer alive instead of just stating it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Kanye alot, but this album isn't that huge of a departure of Kanye's themes and feelings.

Feel free to replace my little review. The list just looks better to me overall with the text there.

Pretty much. "A Milli" has pretty much the worst "beat" I've ever heard in my life.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal".

Why so shocked? Is it because you don't like Metallica?

The album is the best thing they've released in years, makes for one of the best comebacks this decade, features James at his best in a long time regarding vocals and rhythm guitar, Lars playing drums that don't sound like trash can lids(and planning them well, might I add), Robert showing that he's arguably the best bassist since Cliff Burton, and Kirk trying a few new things with his leads(like incorporating them more into the songwriting so that they fit well). The CD features some great songs and some really tight musicianship.

He might be planning them well but he's not that great of a drummer.

Listen to the second half of The Day That Never Comes and tell me that couldn't sound better with better drum parts.

Yeah, I've never liked anything Metallica has done. I hate the singers voice, their type of "guitar solos", and that style of metal. But really some great songs and tight musicianship doesn't sound like album of the year material to me. I can't believe Metallica is still relevant with all the music out there today. It's like Slipknot or Korn in my book.

Just because you don't like it or anything else they've done doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a spot up here. The album has gotten numerous rave reviews from many critics and people that, after St. Anger had stopped taking the band seriously anymore. Then again, debating about something that is mostly subjective like this is futile for the most part, isn't it?

And I'm not implying that that alone makes it album of the year material. It's just one of a number of ingredients that when brought together, it makes for what is, IMO, one of the best albums of the year.

Haha, wow. How did I not notice that?

I'm certainly not saying he's one of the best drummers in music, because that wouldn't be true. However, compared to his work on previous Metallica albums, especially the 80's stuff, this easily compares with some of his best work.

Neither band has created something with...no, approaching either the quality or impact of Metallica's first four albums. (mainly RTL and MOP)
It's almost like comparing Jet to the Rolling Stones or Beatles.

Which, IMO, still doesn't mean much. Lars is okay, but he's dwarfed by the other three members - like he was before Burton's death. Which probably makes him one of the luckiest musicians ever.

Just out of sheer curiosity- what would you say is the criteria for a good beat? Or maybe you just didn't like it- there's a difference between the two.

All DKelly is saying is that its some of his best work. He never said Lars is the best drummer to exist in space in time, nor is he saying that he is the best musical performer in Metallica. I just don't understand what you think it is that "doesn't mean much."

"A Milli" was one of the most abused beats last years, for freestyling. And that's a good thing. Sorta like "Quiet Storm" and "The Benjamins" beats, and "Ha" . I don't like Lil Wayne, but that beat is good.

I quite liked it too.

I guess I prefer sampling to sample someone singing, or just something besides three syllables repeated over and over and over and over

It's really baffling how someone can like it, and then you add his voice....gross.
