Having seen the film, I can say that fairly early in the film I got an, "I shouldn't be here," feeling, and I certainly wouldn't recommend the film to anyone. I can't think of any reason why a Christian should be entertained by a film like this.

With that said, I think you're only applying this scripture when it's easy. Friday the 13th films are an easy target for verses like this because they know what they are and they brag about it. I don't mean to point fingers and such, but a few days ago you started a thread on "The Bachelor." My understanding of the show is that it basically amounts to a bunch of women (most of whom have no shame) fighting over a womanizer with marriage as the reward for the victor. The entertainment comes from watching people act foolishly and sin, and the reward for their actions is a marriage which will almost certainly end in another sin. When you apply Phil 4:8 to the Bachelor, it doesn't hold up much better than Friday the 13th.

I think you're absolutely right, Sean. And I won't try to defend the Bachelor here, or anywhere.

This serves to demonstrate that no media choice falls outside the realm of Christian discretion, no matter how seemingly innocent, especially when compared to certain genres of film or TV.

I think every Christian is at a different place with this. We were recently convicted to stop watching Family Guy for several reasons. Basically it boiled down to us laughing at something that happened that was incredibly disrespectful to Jesus and God, and later realizing how not funny it was and how desensitized we were for laughing at it at the time.

I used to be a "That's what she said" master, but at the same time we decided to stop watching Family Guy I was personally convicted to stop using that phrase. It was a result of this teaching.
