There's a difference between playing hard on the court and completely embarrassing another team. Even when we're beating a team, I still tell my girls to play hard. But I'll pull my starters and quit pressing them, at least. I'm not saying to intentionally play badly so that they catch up. I'm just saying that there's no reason to try to win every single game by the largest margin possible. There should be some room for sportsmanship, class, and dignity.

If only we could teach this to NCAA coaches.

Yeah, I would say its just as easy to let up in basketball. If I were a coach in this situation I would tell my players to continue to play smart and play hard, but play with a lot less energy, I suppose you could say. Stop pushing the ball up the court, taking your time on offense, not fouling, playing a little less physical. From my experience from playing a blow out, theres nothing wrong with continuing to play hard on defense (maybe a little less agressive) but respectfully slowing things down on offense.

I agree with you baseball, but I also feel the same perspective applys. Its hard to tell your pitcher to go out there and "throw a little less harder so they have a better chance" and telling your players to not hustle after balls as much. But on offense, it least on the basepaths, its easier to play a little less agressive.

Yeah, well teams want to blow each other out as much as possible so their ranking is higher. Or it least I know thats how it works in high school.

Yeah, that's how it works, and it is nonsense.
