It's okay. I quit guitar because it's too hard. Lots of people do. It's not the end of the world if you can't get it. It does seem important to you, so I would keep trying if I were you. Practice makes perfect.

Well I wouldn't say that they lied to you. Were they really supposed to say "Hey kid, you really aren't good" ? No, of course not. No parent is going to say that. They are going to try to encourage you to keep practicing the guitar, since it seems like you really like it. If you like it, keep practicing.

i have engouth thing wrong with me they should just tell me i am starting to wander if i am tone def or if because my hands i cant play gutair

I would feel bad. But hopefully I would be able to move on and realize it's not the end of the world.

You're like 14 right? I don't think you should be worrying so much about what you're going to do in the future right now. Just enjoy life now. Try to have fun. If you like playing guitar, go ahead and play. You're not horrible, you're just not awesome yet either. As far as college goes, there are plenty of Universities out there that will let you in. The University I go to lets 98% of applicants in. But like I said, don't worry too much about it. You're too young to be stressin out

Your parents didn't lie to you, they probably just didn't know any better.

To the vast majority of people, simply being able to make sound out of a musical instrument is pretty good, since the task seems daunting with all the confusing pegs and strings and frets and knobs and what-have-you.

That you can make any kind of musical sound out of a guitar is pretty impressive and something most people will never even attempt to do because they're too scared. That you can make up bits and pieces of songs is even more impressive, because it shows that you have a musical ear (if not yet the musical hands to go with it... but that'll come, and it's much easier to train hands than your ear). This, in itself, is "good."

What is "good" will keep changing over and over again in your life. At your stage of musical development, working hard at piecing together a song you wrote and being able to put it together in front of a small group of people (your friends and family) is quite good. As you get better, you'll find that you want to improve less noticeable things and refine your ability to write music, and "good" will mean something new to you.

I went back and listened to the video clips you posted. You're not bad. You can play. You are playing. My comments weren't on your ability to play so much as they were on your ability to progress and get better. You asked why you weren't able to play certain songs well, and the reason is that your tecnique is holding you back. This doesn't mean you suck or you're bad or your hands aren't meant for guitar or anything else like that.

Don't give up. Far too many people give up on music when it gets difficult. There is kind of a bottleneck of musicianship that you have to slip through. Imagine an old-style hourglass, with a little tiny place for sand to slip through. When you first start playing music, there's so much to learn that you make progress very quickly (think how much better you are now than you were one day after you started playing!), then it slows down.

That slowing down is kind of like all the sand getting squeezed toward that little pinched part in the middle of the hourglass, or all the liquid in a bottle trying to force its way through the bottleneck all at once. It's slow and it's painful. This is something almost every musician faces at some point. You can see the other side of the bottleneck, see where you want to go, but just can't seem to get there. Like most things, it takes time.

Really, you're not quite into the bottleneck yet, though. You still have a lot of the beginning stuff left to learn. Sure, this will take some work, but not as much as you think. Just stick with it. Eventually, you'll get to a place where you really don't seem to be getting any better. That's the point where it's most important to stick with it, because the payoff is huge if you do. Something will just "click" if you work long enough, and you'll be through.

Once you get through the bottleneck, things seem to get a little easier on the other side, and there will once again be tons of stuff for you to learn. The difference is that you'll then be able to see how two seemingly unrelated topics or musical ideas fit together, and you'll be able to make your musical ideas out of them. Passing through that bottleneck is what, mostly, separates great players from "good" players. It's a different perspective.

Stick with it. Nothing worth doing ever comes easy in life. If you learn this now and resolve yourself to just keep working on the things that you enjoy (whether it's playing guitar or anything else), you'll be much happier later. You will feel much more satisfied having struggled with something difficult and finally having overcame it, than you will if you just keep searching for what comes easily and not having to struggle to do it.

Nate pretty summed it up pretty well. Kentl, whatever you do; just keep pressing on towards ur dream as a musician. As time goes on, you'll get better and better. Maybe better than you are now. I pray that God will work it out for you.
