I have not had the opportunity to try one. I'd like to. | I got my last dozen or so sets for free. I use Ernie Ball extra slinkies. I don't care about what sticks in the nut as I use almost no trem stuff...
As far as Peavey USA's go, I got my last one for around $40 in trade. They are ridiculously cheap sometimes. Usually you can get a nice one for under $200 right now.

| I second Ernie Ball, they're cheap and (in my experience thus far) long-lasting.
I also second looking at the used market for guitars.

also i have herd those strings are good | I prefer used guitars. Peavey made some killer guitars back in the day. The electronics kind of suck in some, but the platform rocks.
I like super light strings, which is not what most like...

I use 8's. Which are the lightest stock gauge. I liked 7's when I could get them... but I no longer have a source. And there is more to it than preference... You can get lower actions with lighter gauge, have less mag drag, but lose some volume, and it takes less to do FAR more to the string. If you get say a clapton fan on my broom of doom, they would suck now that I have it set up...

Really, guitars are VERY simple electrically.

I have not had the opportunity to try one. I'd like to. | I use DR coated strings. A little Finger Ease string lubricant pretty much eliminates the sticking problem.
Ernie Ball Extra Slinky's are nice too. Every guitar I have ever borrowed has had them on.
