Confused about legality of lyrics

Many songs posted in the tab archive have corresponding lyrics with their chords. Yet according to the site, lyrics are not allowed. Why do some songs include lyrics and some not?
Also - I know the chords to a number of different hymns that are in the public domain. Can I post those chords with lyrics? Or can I only post the chords?

If they're in the public domain, it will be fine to post lyrics.

Lyrics to songs not in public domain are not allowed, please bring them to our attention so we can get rid of them.

From my experiences I've noticed lyrics on mainly older songs that were posted before the whole issue of lyrics was brought up. Sometimes there are a couple of words posted with the chords to kind of give the chord changes, but as to whether or not that is an issue of copyrights I am not sure.

Gustin, I'll be sure to bring up the lyrics when I find them, but for the most part all the songs are clear. Or at least that as been my experience.

Including a few words to let the user know where they are is perfectly fine. It's the full lyrics that are a problem. And you're right, most of the songs with lyrics now will probably be ones from before the site got in trouble.

I appreciate the heads up.
