Reading the Psalms

When you read through the Psalms, do you try to put them to music, or read them like they are lyrics, since that is how they were written? Or do you simply read them like they are words in the Book?

I have a habit of making the who Bible into a song when I read it.

And when I look at the Psalms as songs, 'tis like they open up and jump out and take on new meanings and stuff. I have SUCH a respect for David and the others who wrote that stuff.

Music is always going on in my head (but I'm feeling much better, now). The psalms are especially prone to be put to song because of their structure but I'm always getting music for other passages of scripture, too. A couple of years ago, my wife gave me a pocket dictaphone for Christmas because I would get songs while at work or in church and write down the lyrics but forget the tune by the time I could get home. So, now I carry my dictaphone in my lunch pail to work and in my cargo pocket to church.
