| It's logically valid to question why people react with revulsion at the thought of eating kittens or puppies, but not fish. However, this campaign has too many ridiculous factors to be effective. One cannot reverse the entrenched assumptions of an entire culture with one silly ad campaign. PETA ought to be involved in positive research, like improving accessibility and taste of complex protein substitutes. There are many natural protein sources, but also many companies making ones that taste like meat. If PETA funded the latter, they could run campaigns that offer alternatives, instead of coming across as if they're mocking people.
Note that I am not saying it is illogical to eat meat. I am saying it is dubious to be grossed out by the death of "cute" animals, or to condemn folks who use animals for things like sport or fighting, while inserting metal bars into the heads of cattle and then dismembering their often still-alive bodies for sake of a burger or a leather belt.
Yes, I am standing up for Michael Vick. Not because I view his actions as morally correct, but because I do not believe society has the logical consistency to condemn him.
