How to set up a dual-boot from Ubuntu

Hey guys. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on my desktop and I'm wanting to set it up as a dual-boot system with XP. Am I able to partition Ubuntu and install XP on another partition easily, or am I better off trying to salvage what I can off the computer and starting over with XP first?

I'm new to Ubuntu and partitioning, so you'll have to speak in laymen's terms.

I've actually been wondering the same thing and so I'm very curious to see the answer. I was under the impression I'd have to start from scratch but I'm hoping I'm wrong.

That's the way it looks from the first three or four pages of Google. I haven't invested much time in making Ubuntu my home yet, but I don't want to start from scratch again.

This article seems to know how to do what you want.

Basically it restores the GRUB menu after XP bootloader over writes it.

AWESOME!

I'm already done. Now I just need to find a way to get all the drivers for XP for my Dell. This is perfect. Thanks!

That link should be added to the Linux FAQ or something. It's amazingly helpful

I just did this to my computer this weekend. Worked great and I'm very happy with it. I'll still use Ubuntu 99% of the time but it is nice to be able to use XP if I need to, especially for testing web pages in XP... Wine just wasn't doing it for me.
