| OK, here's my first tatt. It needs some touching up. Probably won't use the same guy again. Looks a little sloppy to me. Maybe some fixing needed. |

| I'm at work.. so I can't post pictures right now..
but I have 4 tattoos...
dove with an olive twig, really detailed.. on my lower back, the left side
kanji symbol for courage on my right thigh (about to add to it by putting cherry blossoms on my right side/ribs.. above it)
I have plaid stars on my right leg and "walk by faith" on my left foot.. along the side
I love tattoos, they are so addicting |

| They can be if you get something that looks bad or that's dumb.. I think they are great, it can be a beautiful piece of art put on your body
When you get a tattoo, you just have to make sure you know for sure that is what you want.. and it's always better if there is some value or meaning behind it..
and also, make sure you get someone who does great work to do it.. some people get tattoos just to get them, and some people see it as a form or art and that's why they are into it.. |

| There actually is a tattoo forum where I'm sure this will get moved. And there's people on here that know much more about the subject than I, but I'll tell you what I know. When I got my tattoo, the guy told me that for the first few days while the ink was setting and the skin was healing (it's quite traumatic to the skin to be jabbed with a needle thousands of times) it was possible to do damage to the tattoo. I was told even to just pat it dry after my shower instead of harshly scuffing over it with the towel. So if you skinned your arm a little right afterward that could be bad. I'm not sure, but maybe the ink would be set by a week.
Given the lifestyle you lead (think "home made" water slide) I can see why this would be a concern for you.
What are you thinking of tattooing on your arm? |

| i was thinking a large happy face with Jesus loves you underneath it.
but even a cut or a graze, like a year after it has been done, surely it would distort it somehow?

| After you get a tattoo, you usually have a tissue type piece of cloth taped on it, shielding it from such abrasions.
Most tattoo threads go in the Clothing forum for some odd reason, so that is where I will move it.

The ink goes pretty deep (in comparison to the skins thickness)... although you might need to have the tat darkened or touched up. Unless the injury is bad enough that there would be significant scarring... then you'd definately have problem.
I'd go to a (or a few) tattoo shop(s) and ask the people that work there. I'm sure they'd know.

| well i hate to post in a dead forum too, but i have several and want to share them. so here they all are.
these first 2 are my matching nautical stars, i grew up in michigan near grand haven which is the headquarters for the midwest coast guard, i've been around water and boats my whole life.... but i have my red one on my left arm for port, and my green one on my right arm for starboard, theres only been like one person to ever see that. but there cool.
this next one is on my right shoulder, and it's my first "big" one, i really liked the design of this dragon, and it fit good there.
this one is for my love of music,
this one my wife and i both got around our one year anniversary, the only difference is the color of the birds is switched around.
this one i got on one of my trips to michigan, i thought it was pretty rad.
this is my first, also done in michigan, just a little one on my ankle to test, to see if i liked it, and if i didn't easy to hide.
this is my favorite, was done on my birthday and it's the H.M.S. surprise, from the movie master and commander: the far side of the world, i chose that ship because it has a story. also i wanted to go with a british naval vessel as a tribute to the old way of sailing with just wind and sea. the text reads "all i ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by" i thought this was an amazing quote, and worked so well. and tia was able to put it in twilight colors with a star. this was done by a world class artist at guilt by association tattoo in federal heights colorado right by denver. tia is one of the owners and has one several awards at shows and stuff, it was a great time, and a really reasonable price. |
