Children of Hurin

I just heard about this book recently and I was curious if this was somehow related to the Silmarillion, and if so which would be better to read first.

The Silmarillion. The events take place after the events in the Silmarillion, and it gives good background information that otherwise you'll miss.

Really? I'd heard that Children of Hurin was an expansion on some of the sections in The Silmarillion (like the story of Turin). Is that not true?

Anyone ever read this? I've been re-reading the Silmarillion, and was thinking about checking this out. Is it in sufficiently more depth than the sections on Turin and Nienor in the Silmarillion to warrant a read?

Is this different from The Lay of the Children of Hurin found in The Lays of Beleriand? I found the Lays to be one of the most incredible works in the History of Middle Earth.

By the way, I'm re-reading the Silmarillion as well.
