Namely Proposition 8, which I'm sure everyone heard of.

Proposition 4, I think was the one, about placing a waiting period and making it so that a parent would have to be notified if the minor were going to have an abortion. It didn't pass.

There was another one about certain farm animals and whether they should be left in a space for the majority of the day where they at least have enough room to turn around, spread their legs, etc. I'm not sure what happened with it.

A handful on improving the freeways, energy independence, and one here in the LA county about having some kind of more extensive metrolink system.

There was one too about veterans... and housing or loans for buying homes....
something like that.

Actually, I didn't hear about #8. Could you tell us about it?

To expound a bit on some of these...

Our statewide issues included funding the construction of a high-speed train system, going from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Los Angeles area. The thought is that it would cut greenhouse emissions, keep cars off the roads, etc. It passed.

Our "Energy Independence" bill was to place certain restrictions on energy companies, requiring that they produce a certain amount of their energy by renewable means. It failed. Many claimed that it would put a lot of smaller energy companies out of business.

We voted on additional funding for law enforcement and prisons. It failed.

We voted on additional funding for Hospitals for Children. It passed, though many complained that a similar bill from a previous vote is already doing this.

Prop 5 was funding for more drug-rehab programs for non-violent drug offenders, as well as some reduced penalties/jail time. It failed.

We voted on a new redistricting plan that is supposed to take away from the legislature the ability to re-draw district lines, and put it into the hands of the people. It passed.

That one was to continue an already existing program, under which Veterans are able to get low interest financing with which to purchase housing. The bill is paid for out of the mortgages, and it passed by a large margin.

Ohio voted for:

Ohio Issue 1 Initiative rights Change deadline for submitting signatures on initiatives from 90 days pre-election to 125 days pre-election Approved

Ohio Issue 2 Bond issue Borrow $400 million for environmental conservation, preservation and revitalization purposes Approved

Ohio Issue 3 Property rights Creates constitutional amendment protecting property rights along the with passage of the Great Lakes Water Compact Approved

Ohio Issue 5 Veto referendum A "yes" vote puts a cap on interest rate payday lenders can charge Approved

Ohio Issue 6 Gambling Would allow one $600,000,000 resort/casino in Ohio Defeated

The gambling issue has been on our ballots every four years since 1992, and has been defeated overwhelmingly each time. As of right now it is illegal to gamble for money in the state of Ohio.

Oh, I thought so but that's really good news. I remember when I was reading through my little voter packet I felt totally offended that the argument against that proposition referred to them as "veterans" with the quotations. You just don't insult the people who have served in our military like that. Aye, aye, aye!
