| Red Dawn remake in the works? http://www.screeninglog.com/journal/...wn-remake.html

| I love Red Dawn! When I was a kid my friends and I used to pretend the same thing was happening in our neighborhood!
I can't say I have high-hopes for a remake. I can see it turning out like War of the Worlds...
Who is going to invade? They can't seriously say Russia can they?

| Why?
The political background involved in the story is about as obsolete as a Hal Lindsey book.
What's next? A Spacehunter remake? |

what was wrong with War of the Worlds?
I liked the remake they did, and I say that as a fan of the original movie.

| I will not be seeing this unless two things happen: (1) The Swayze is commander of the invasion forces who (2) at some point refers to someone not messing with Baby.

(Besides, he's too busy making a documentary about having cancer.) If they bring back Swayze, though, I want C. Thomas Howell making a cameo drinking blood, somewhere, anywhere. It doesn't even have to have anything to do with the rest of the movie.
Supposedly Red Dawn held the record for the highest body count in a movie for a long time, but I don't know it that is still true. I know it still holds the record for cheesiest use of dramatic irony for the Russian prying the gun out of the cold, dead hands of the guy who had the bumper sticker that said, "You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands."
For some reason, one of the cable networks used to show Red Dawn on Thanksgiving, and so every year starting in about 1994 (and ending when I moved out?) my brothers and I watched it after gorging ourselves. Action movies and gluttony — that's the kind of American ideals the Wolverines were fighting for.

| I'm resurrecting this thread because filming began about three weeks ago in metro-Detroit, where I grew up. A foot-and-car chase scene was filmed two weeks ago less than two miles from my grandfather's house (where my dad grew up) in Royal Oak.
I applied to be an extra but I don't know if I could get up to a week off class and work to do it. Would be pretty cool though.
Even if this remake bites it, I'll still want to see it just because of the location.
BTW, it's the Red Chinese this time.
