I know he mainly uses 2B's for sticks. He's been using some Vic Firth SD-1's that I gave him (they were slightly used and very free, and I've had them for like two years) for practice, and since then he's broken more sticks than cymbals. As for striking point, angle, velocity, repetition, etc, I have no idea. I don't pay that much attention, nor do I know enough about drumming to really be able to tell.

My gut says that Adam has trended towards the same thing when he switched from 5As to 5Bs. Although my gut says that a heavier stick would = more broken cymbals, it makes sense that a heavier stick would reduce your stick speed and possibly change your striking angle, though the difference between a 5A and a 5B is more dramatic than that of a 2B and an SD-1.

isn't that what SD-1 Generals are, or are marching sticks even thicker?

Marching sticks are much thicker.

Ironic thing is that you're supposed to play much more precise rhythms with them. But they get the sound out of the big marching snares better than anything.

(also ironically, due to the nature of marching, I've snapped more marching sticks than any other kind )
