isohunt is hosted in canada, and if you get somethng from a website from there, its technically not illegal

It is illegal in the United States, REGARDLESS of where it is hosted. Elsewhere, it is simply immoral.

well I finished...

I deleted about 3k songs equaling about 11 gigs (half of my music)

now I just need to buy about 20 cd's so I can get the music that I liked back...

Good man! Amazon used section is a good friend. I routinely buy cds for $2-$3 on their.

what is nice is when you get free music from people who live in your house

for instance my cousin just moved in (she is going to be her a few years) so I get her whole music library, and my bro buys a lot of music so yeah

is it legal to buy a cd put it on your ipod then sell or give it away, but keep the files?

The situation is the same in any situation. If more than one copy exists and only one was paid for, its illegal.

Torrents are just a way to transfer files, it's what you use them for that's illegal. So if I distribute pictures of my pet tortoise as copyright free torrents, there's nothing wrong, but if I put up a CD that I bought that someone else owns the copyright for, it's illegal.
