What's the difference between a Fender Strat and a Fender Squier Strat?

I mean besides about $150

Cheaper parts. Squiers are made somewhere in Asia (I don't remember specifically), so the craftsmanship/manufacturing process is nowhere near the Fender Strats made in Mexico (better) or the US (best). The parts on the Squiers are of lesser quality, and especially the pickups. The pickups in the Squier Affinity Strats hum like crazy if you're near anything that's remotely electrical. The shielding in them is no good. Basically that's it....cheaper parts and it's harder to find one that's "perfectly" manufactured. As for Mexi vs. American Fender Strats....there are those who say you can't tell the difference and those who swear up and down the American's are better. I'm one who says you can't tell the difference.

I'm one who says you can tell the difference, but the differences don't matter as much to me as long as you know how to correct for them.

To make a Squier Strat into something resembling a "Mexican" Strat, you simply need to add shielding to your guitars pickup cavities and (if it's not done already) have the pickups potted in wax. There are features (like the saddle) that I like better in Squiers than in the "real thing." Food for thought.

I am not a fan of Squires at all. MIMs are awesome!

i have had a lot of problems with my Squier. When i bought it, the bridge pickup didn't even work. But me being stupid, thought that it was just an off switch or something so i didn't take it in to get fixed. So when i went to my lesson, my teacher turned it on the bridge pickup, and heard nothing. So then, i got brand new strat single coils in my squier for free. Now my squier sounds great. God bless those poorly made squiers.

I also hate to hear people call *anything* a "Fender Squier". The ONLY thing Fender has to do with any Squier instrument is they pay someone overseas to make it for them cheaply and put the Squier name on it. There's no point in adding the "Fender" to Squier when you're talking about them just to make it now sound like the cheap knockoff that it is.

The Squier's are pretty good beginner's guitars.
I hear that the ones they make today are much better
than they used to be.
They are less expensive mostly because of cheaper
hardware.

Go to your Fender dealer and try them out, and see for yourself.

The only thing about Squier I don't like is the narrow nut width.
Good value for the $$$$

I got an Epiphone Les Paul for Chistmas and exchanged it for a Fender Strat.

Epiphone is to Gibson as Squier is to Fender.

Personally I think Epiphone is a bit better then a squire.

Of course I'm going off mostly from Acoustic because I own a Epiphone Acoustic and I simply love it. It has a gorgeous sound. Cost me about $650 though But I think it's a much better quality guitar then a Squire.

Of course thats just my opinion

SQUIER = Most mis-spelled guitar word on these boards. And another thing....The Squier is still a Strat, so the comparison above makes no sense to me. Should be Squier vs. Fender and not Squier vs. Strat because the latter would be considered the same in this discussion.

As for Epiphone is to Gibson as Squier is to Fender. This is true in respect to where they are manufactured and the method in which each contracts them out, but in terms of quality Epiphone will beat out a Squier any day. If you can afford an Epiphone I would be more likely to get one of those instead of a Squier, but the Squier is definitely a great "bang for the buck" guitar for a BEGINNER.

Because I can....that's all. If I constantly spelled Fender "Fedner" then I'm sure you and a million others would say something. I've just gotten tired of seeing it.
