| "E" Is For Everything Else Actually, despite the title of my journal (Or shall I call it a blog? Or perhaps a "manly diary" ?), I am not a Trekkie. My name is Andrew and I hail from the wonderful town of Memphis, TN. Currently, I am sophomore at Mississippi State University. I am unhappily single and recovering from a three and half year relationship I didn't want to let go of. Anyway, when not in class, I'm probably busting my butt at work. I have worked there for about a year, and I'm finally starting to get some respect.
Ok, enough intro, on with the actual first entry...
I worked a Sunday Night shift at Ruby Tuesday in Memphis tonight. I'm grateful I can transfer between here and Starkville, and I know this one is usually the better managed of the two, but Sunday Night seems to be the exception. I had to work the smoking section (cough, cough, gag), I never got cut, some people never came into work tonight, and at some point, the dishwasher was juggling steak knives while singing "White and Nerdy". This is just absurd.
I guess I deserved it, I accidentally slept through church this morning. I was out late last night (at a church function now less!), and absolutely no one called to wake me up this morning. On the way home from work, I stopped and bought an alarm clock. Alas, I have to miss next Sunday morning too, because I have to work Christmas Eve Morning. Bah Hombug!
Anyway, feel free to drop a comment, especially if can sympathize with working in the food industry
Edit: Originally, the blog title was Captain's Log: JayCarrfan Is Boldy Going Where No Man Has Gone Before
Maybe the first post will make sense now.

| Ah yes, another glorious day of work. Seriously, the highlight of my day was lunch at Jimmy's Chicago Style Hotdogs. Nothing knocks the stress of work more than a genuine Vienne Beef Chili cheese dog. I've got to get out of the restraunt business before I lose the remainder of my sanity.
I'm the battle of finances right now. I know I really need money for next semester's tuition. It would be really smart to atleast pay off the interest on my student loan as well. I know my truck needs new tires, and my parents won't pay for all of it. In additio to all this, I really need to get Christmas presents for my parents, my two brothers, and my older brother's fiancee. On top of all this, I have to refuse to buy myself a copy of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for my Wii. Even though the money is really coming in fairly well right now, (Hallelujah for working in a mall restraunt around Christmas) there's always something I need/want to buy. I guess that cycle will continue for the remainder of my life.
I'm bored, PM or IM me if you wanna make a comment. |

| Number one pet peeve at work happened tonight. A woman accused me of overcharging on her ticket. Making matters worse, she played the race card. It's not my fault her nine year old daughter ordered a 10 dollar entree, a soda, and a salad bar. It's not my fault she pointed directly at the item on the ADULT menu and read it while ordering it. It's not my fault that no one noticed her entree was twice the size of her brother's kids meal. That was just ridiculous. Well, I have to open the restraunt tomorrow, our new District Manager is coming in, and she's the one from Starkville District. I don't really care much for her, but now she seems to have followed me. *sigh*
Headed off to bed....

| Well, work went pretty well, even the whole district manager thing. That was a long shift though, from 9:3 to 5:15 PM. Luckily, Thursday is a day off. It rained this afternoon, resulting in the second scariest car incident not resulting in a wreck that I have ever experienced. Basically, I was trying to take a simple left turn. (pic A). Well, I turned left, centered my front tires in the lane, and my rear tires had other plans. (pic B - yellow lights=front of truck). Somehow, instinct took over, and God supernaturally invaded on my behalf. I ended up like this (pic C), but I didn't hit anyone. My heart was beating so fast, it was insane.
I saw Rocky Balboa tonight. I judged every movie by how much I pay to see it, and I got my $8 worth tonight. (Note, Talledega Nights was not worth $8) It's truly a great underdog story about doing what you know is right, even when it doesn't seem to be the best idea.

| Went and saw The Nativity Story today. It had a few chronological "errors", but overall, it was an excellent portrayal of the greatest story ever told.
I've finally decided what my role in life is. I am the Underdog. Middle Child, never the smartest, never had the most opportunities, never had what I wanted, I have everything in life to prove. Apparently, I wasn't what my last girlfriend wanted. Apparently, I go to work everyday with a chip on my shoulder ecuase people don't believe I'm that good of a server. The last few movies I've seen have been "Underdog" movies. Invincible Facing The Giants We Are Marshall Rocky Balboa, all dealing with the rise of the downtrodden. Well, today I saw the movie telling about the greatest Underdog ever to walk on this Earth. I guess this is sort of a turning point in my life. Never again do I see myself thinking I'm the best. I'm gonna live the rest of my life thinking I've got something to prove. 2nd Timothy 2:15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
Phillipians 4:13
13I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
It's a mission in life, but like I say in the title, JayCarrFan is boldly going where no man has gone before: MY LIFE! |

| Ah, what a day. Work was slow, tips were down, but I'm happy. Why? Well, I'm a reedemed child of God, but the good news for today is that I finished all my Christmas shopping in less than an hour. I bought gifts for 5 people, all at one store and checked out in less than an hour. Now I just have to get over the fact I have to work on a Sunday Morning, and I'll be in an even better mood. I have roughly one more week left here in Memphis before I head back to Starkville for another semester of college. |

| Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Christmas time, what a day to stop and reflect on the ultimate gift that could ever be given. I've been through a lot this year. Family troubles, (Aunts and Uncles, not my own household, mind you), Brother proposing, a tragic breakup of a three and a half year relationship, tougher classes at school, management changes at work, problems with the truck, the list is endless. Yet, I'm finally beginning to realize that God has this incredible plan for me, and it all began over two thousand years ago, when Jesus came to this Earth. Jeusus had everything set against Him. King Herod attempted to kill Him when Jesus was but a child. Herod couldn't stop Him, the Pharisee's couldn't stop Him, the Devil couldn't tempt Him, Judas tried to get away form Him, even after death of Christ, the Apostle Paul (then Saul) couldn't escape Him. That should be enough to motivate anybody any day of the year. However, when one considers that Jesus, before all this, came as an innocent baby under the most strenuous of conditions, it becomes simply...Supernatural.
Merry Christmas to all who read, be sure to say thank you to anyone who gives you a gift, even if it's something you already have, don't drink too much eggnog, and keep your eyes not on the Babe in the Manger, but rather the King on the Cross. |

| Alas, Christmas day has come and gone. It was a nice day, I always enjoy a good brunch at my Granny's (Dad's Side), followed by a great Dinner at my Aunt's (Mom's side). I have some relatives I really like, as long as I see them only once or twice a year. All Kidding aside, today really wasn't a bad day. It was nice not having to go in to work. Too bad I have to go in tomorrow morning to open. My last day to work in Memphis is January the second. That could work out for either good or for worse. I've been kinda depressed in recent months, and 4 days without work might not be pleasant. On the other hand, I might be able to keep myself occupied enough to pass the time and return back to Starkville. I know I need to get some new tires on ym truck, especially since my parents gave me $250 for Christmas to accomplish that. Also, I think I might pick up Twilight Princess for my Wii. That would be fun. Heck, maybe I'll even get a date. (Doubtful) |

| Today was the worse day of work I have ever expereinced. Starkville, Memphis, RT's, Chick-Fil-A, whatever you compare, this shift was worse. To start off, the supply truck came an hour late, so we opened 45 minutes late. Today's host was one of the worst that I have ever seen. Also, we only had two cooks on the line for reasons unknown. Following that, our dishwasher broke, that put us on a 45 minute wait, since we had no clean dishes in the store. Also, we had to put people on a wait, becuase if we filled the restraunt, there would be no way the cooks could keep up. Also, our second host and Bartender never showed up for work, so we had less people on the floor than neccessary. I worked from 9 AM to 5:15 PM, and I walked out with twenty-two dollars ($22) in tips. BLEAH!
On a happier note, my brother's fiancee came in today to spend "Christmas" with us. I think she was a little surpised at all the rpesents waiting on us. We're pretty generous. Also, we had a nice Roast Beef Dinner at my Granny's tonight. That's always a plus. It defintely cheered me up a bit. Well, work again tomorrow morning, but I'm glad to be done hosuesitting. Peace out, and leave a comment if you wanna. |
