Guitar mods

Hey, this is what I'm thinking. right now, my guitar is just a standard yamaha aes 620 but I want to put a nickel pickup cover over the neck pickup and switch out the brigde for a zebra pickup. I know it's the same one that's in there now but I really just like the look of the zebra (vain I know), I'm thinking maybe stick the jb that's in there now into the neck postion? What do you guys think? While I'm doing it, I also want to put a coil tap in as well.

If you want to put in new pickup covers go for it. I'm going to get some shiny silver ones for my Squier Strat soon. And if you can put a coil tap in go for that too. My Michael Kelly has a coil tap, it's very useful.

Coil taps are COMPULSORY!!!

change the volume pot to a push on/push off switched one and you wont need to drill any extra holes

Thumbs up

Note, you can get the look of a zebra pickup without having to buy a whole new pickup. By coincidence I just did that. See my thread here:

I never use coil taps...

To the OP. Nickle cover plus zebra? I'd go zebra, zebra.

Nickle covers create a sonic difference and while they look slick, I think they generally muffle the sound.

A JB as a neck pickup is unusual, but not unheard of. Its a bit hot and trebly. If you have the trembucker one, I would recommend not doing that. The pole spacing will throw it off sounding right IMO.
