Maritime Itinerary

Ok, if any of this is not clear or makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, let me know by tomorrow (Wednesday) night!

Thanks!

Tim

----

Day 1:
Your flight leaves Toronto at 8:45 AM today. Upon arriving at Halifax International Airport at 11:46 AM, you will be greeted by a complimentary limousine that will transport you to the glorious Sheraton Halifax hotel on the waterfront in downtown Halifax. As an opening for the tour, you are invited to lunch at 1:00 PM in the hotel dining room to meet with fellow tour patrons and the tour director.
In the afternoon, you have the option of going on a tour of the Halifax Harbour via the Bluenose II, one of the world’s finest schooners. If the tour does not interest you, the splendour of downtown Halifax awaits you. Take a stroll down the waterfront or wander through the quaint little shops in the downtown core.
At the end of your afternoon, you will return to the Sheraton Halifax Hotel for dinner in the dining room and an evening of entertainment as planned for you by your tour director.

Day 2:
This morning, after a continental breakfast, you will be touring the historic star shaped Citadel fortress, which has been standing in its current location since the mid 19th century. After your tour, you will stroll down through the beautiful Halifax Public Gardens just down the street from the Citadel. This park has been attracting visitors since 1875 to view its fountains and flora. Lunchtime is up to you. There are many restaurants and cafés in downtown Halifax from which to choose.
This afternoon, we will be leaving Halifax until the end of the tour. You will be whisked away to the picturesque community of Peggy’s Cove, just west of Halifax. We will stop so you have a chance to admire the scenery of the lighthouse, the pastel coloured houses, or just watch the waves crash against the granite cliffs. Dinner will be at a local restaurant.
After dinner, you will be taken to Truro, Nova Scotia to the John Stanfield Inn for the evening. Enjoy your night, there’s a long day ahead of you tomorrow.

Day 3:
This morning, you will have the opportunity to walk along the Cobequid trail, or just relax in Victoria park and enjoy the beauty of this small city at the tip of the Bay of Fundy.
You will then travel to Moncton, New Brunswick for lunch.
This afternoon, you will travel down to Hopewell Cape to visit the Flowerpot Rocks on the Bay of Fundy. This spectacle is created by the tidal flow throughout the bay. If the timing’s right, you may even get to walk at the base of the rocks.
After your visit to Hopewell Cape, you will return to Moncton for the night.

Day 4:
After breakfast, you will depart for Prince Edward Island on the bus. On your way, you will cross over the Confederation Bridge that was completed in 1999, linking the island with the rest of Canada. On the other side of the bridge, you will enter the lovely town of Summerside, PEI. Just outside of Summerside, you will visit the Acadian Village Museum, which has a lot to offer regarding the life and times of the earlier settlers in the Maritime Provinces. Lunch will be held in Summerside before departing to the small village of Cavandish. In this town, you will visit some historical sites such as Anne of Green Gable’s house and Prince Edward Island National Park.
After your tour of the Cavendish area, you will be escorted to Charlottetown, the capital city of Prince Edward Island for the rest of the evening. There will be an optional excursion to a local theatrical production.

Day 5:
This morning you will be taken across Northumberland Straight by ferry into the small city of Pictou, Nova Scotia. On your visit to Pictou, you will be spending time exploring the Hector Ship Museum, where you will see a replica of the ship Hector that brought 189 Scottish descendants across the Atlantic Ocean to “New Scotland” to begin their new lives in 1773. The ship was originally a cargo ship, but time wore at its hull, until it had to retire in Pictou Harbour.
Following your visit at the Hector Ship Museum, you will have lunch at the Braeside Inn Dining Room, facing Pictou Harbour. You will have your choice of Seafood or Prime Rib for this meal.
When Lunch is finished, you will say farewell to the quaint village of Pictou and travel across the Canso Causeway to the small town of Baddeck. You will visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, the most comprehensive museum about his life and inventions. The night is yours in Baddeck. Tomorrow, you are going to see a glance of nature’s finest.

Day 6:
Today, you rise early to travel the Cabot Trail. This 300 km trail stretches the Northern portion of Cape Breton Island, and passes through some of the most beautiful scenery available in the Maritimes. There will be plenty of stops along the way, so load up on film to take the memories with you. After a stop on the trail for lunch, you will continue onto the Fortress of Louisburg on the southern coast of Cape Breton Island. This fortress is a historic re-iteration of what it was like in the year 1744. The fortress was originally a base for the French’s exploration of the Grand Banks, off the coast of Newfoundland. However, as the years rolled on, the French decided to fortify the town, and the fortifications were finally completed in 1745 on the eve of the first siege against the town. Soon after, the fortress fell to the British, never to be used for military purposes again.
Along with visiting the fortress, you will spend an evening at the Louisburg Playhouse, taking in some of the Cape Breton culture and history before departing to Sydney for the night.

Day 7:
This morning, you will travel west to the small village of Sherbrooke, where you will tour the depiction of life like it was in Nova Scotia before World War One. There are mining buildings, farmhouses and lumber mills for you to explore. With a total of 80 buildings to peruse around, you will be sure to enjoy your morning.
You will then stop in the small town of Liscomb Mills, on the southern shore of Nova Scotia for lunch and a few hours of shopping time before the final return to Halifax.
The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore downtown Halifax. Around 5:00 PM, you will be invited to join the tour group for the farewell dinner at the Delta Barrington. This is your chance to share memories, exchange stories and thank the tour directors for your vacation in the wonderful Maritime Provinces before departing tomorrow afternoon. This evening, there is an optional excursion to the Victoria Theatre in downtown Halifax to see a cultural event.

Day 8:
The morning is yours to do whatever you please. There are many attractions that you may want to visit in the final hours in Halifax. Your plane leaves from Halifax International Airport at 2:40 PM scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 3:37 PM local time.
