Insight on Metallica

I had a question about some metallica music, the song "Nothing else matters" has somewhat puzzled me, what exactly is the point of this song? It seem somewhat arrogant, but I'm not to sure. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

I don't have an answer to your question, but I started a thread on Metallica. Scott moved it up to the Sec. music in relation to Christianity.

Travis should be able to answer your question.

It was nothing personal man, I just moved it cos the thread turned to whether or not listening to Metallica was a nice Christian activity, as far as I remember. This thread is cool, so far.

You might want to post the lyrics to the song, so lazy people can give their ideas. What a song incidentally.

Good looking out, Scott... I know the song, but I'd have to read the lyrics to give you any real insight.

Here are the lyrics for those that are interested and don't remember them all:

"Nothing Else Matters"

So close no matter how far
couldn't be much more from the heart
forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never opened myself this way
life is ours, we live it our way
all these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

trust I seek and I find in you
every day for us something new
open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

so close no matter how far
couldn't be much more from the heart
forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

never opened myself this way
life is ours, we live it our way
all these words I don't just say

trust I seek and I find in you
every day for us something new
open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

so close no matter how far
couldn't be much more from the heart
forever trusting who we are
no nothing else matters

I have heard two different stories about this song. One is that the song was written by James to detail the relationship the band has with all of their fans. The other interpretation I have heard says James wrote the song about his relationship with his brother and how it has changed over the years.

Either way I think the "Nothing else matters" is really just saying that other things pale when compared to the importance of whatever he is talking about.

Nothing Else Matters, according to James, is about his wife. Great song.

It's funny how you can sing along with a song, but never really think about the lyrics....

it seems like a love song to me, so the wife explanation would fit as far as I can see.

hmmm, can we spot someone who is talking about metallica's stereotypical image? I think so......

Have you heard some of the guitar work? That alone qualifies them as a good band in my book.

Yeah, list all the Metallica songs you've heard...

What kind of music do you listen to?

Also, for one: they don't sound like everything else back then, and two: the reason they sound similar to other bands is because they practically invented/popularized thrash metal.

Amazing guitar work, complex, soft/beautiful at times and powerful at other times...extreemly complex drumwork, just listen to anything off the Justice album for that...very poetic lyrics as well, and like most other 'metal' bands (I use that term like that because bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc. are not metal) they don't feel the need to cuss constantly or have lyrics like "Shut up when I'm talking to you, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, I'm about to break"

Dude, according to an interview I saw with the band, Nothing Else Matters was written about their bass player who died, and is talking about how nothing in the world is more important than friendship. That's just what they said on the interview. Anyway, they have a brilliant guitarist, I mean just look at the tab for Nothing Else Matters. It almost makes you want to cry, it's so beautiful....
