I love Enter Sandman.... It's so demented it makes me smile. I'm going to play that during naptime at a daycare center.

I used to like that song...until a high school band slaughtered it at a talent show.

Now I can't even hear the intro without hearing that singer's cornball singing voice.

So sad that a high school band would try to cover talented music.

The High School band I was in covered Tool at times, and did it quite well IMO. At least sometimes....

That is correct, the songwriting credits go to the person that wrote the song, not solos or riffs in it. The song is the skeleton structure of rhythm patterns, chrod structures, arrangement and lyrics. One does not throw in their solo or minimally change the piece for their instrument and get songwriting credits...

For the record, I like Metallica after they grew up in their writing and production quality with the black album, I really didn't think much of their stuff before that. They songs were basic metal and sounded like they were recorded in a garage...which many probably were. I lot of folks dig the raw sound, I never did, it bored me.

If by "grew up" you mean they started writing radio friendly music, then yes. And of course the production is a billion times better.

Hardly, the songs on Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...and Justice for All are all more complex than the stuff on the Black Album. I have no idea how you can call the album And Justice for All "basic metal." Especially when you're comparing it to The Black Album.

...well, yeah...

...and over-production sucks the life out of music. Its all personal preference.

The Black Album is a good door-way to their old stuff. Their older stuff is much better, IMHO. But we all have our opinion. The Pre-Black album stuff is much more complicated and less-radio friendly.

When I first started getting into 'tallica I began with Metallica (the black album). After that I went with Master Of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. RTL is still my favorite 'tallica album. Metallica did write much more complex music before the black album. After the black album it became much more simple. I think their most complicated album was ...And Justice for All, which is a consistantly good album. None of the songs suck, but there are no stand out songs besides One.

Forget it, it's a shallow album compared to their others. Trust me, you'll get bored after a month at most. If you really want to get into Metallica, get Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All. Load and Reload aren't that bad, but they're a completely different style and IMO not up to par with their earlier material. The Black Album was their attempt at commercial success, and it passed. There are some good moments on it, but go with their other ones first. Then try to find Black Album used.

'Radio-friendly' is the antichrist of music.

Yes. Radio-friendly means sacrificing the music for commercialism. Two things which don't seem related taken on their own, but commercialism is like a friggin parasite.

metallica has really good guitar riffs, very skilled :P i tried to play fade to black guitar parts.. i got someof them.. but the very end is like CRZY playing.. amzing stuf. yet they sing about death etc. which i dislike. but i admire their guitar parts.
