I can safely say you'll regret that... I tried that with my $80 Tele, you're just throwing good money out for bad. Even EVH said his sub-100 frankenstrats were junk.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight.

If you want next to nothing for a good guitar, get yourself a peavey predator USA, replace the pickups and bingo, good guitar. Or a Peavey Generations tele clone (once again MIA) those are solid and cheap as well, and are worth messing with.

Try this one

that would be better than a rondo.

So would this
Or this one

Well the thing is I do not have a guitar right now to play at all. And I was thinking that maybe If I spent like $200 now I could get maybe $500 dollars more with various Christmas and birthday stuff. But it was just an idea.......

the ones I pointed out were well under 200. And were solid MIA guitars that should last a lifetime. I have an old charvel for sale for $125 thats MIK. Personally, I like the peaveys better, but its a solid axe as well.

I'm not a big fan of strats.......
But anyways since I do not have a working guitar right now I guess what I'm asking is should I wait for the extra bucks I get Christmas time or should I got ahead and get a guitar right now?
I'm kinda leaning towards the 52 Ri Telecaster-wise those look like they go from anywhere from $800-$900. SG's are a little bit cheaper $600-$900. I'm selling the Orange Cabinet and a pedal today so I'll have around $530........

What do you want? SG, or tele? I bet you can find a used one in budget. A tele style Peavey will run you around 200 and they go up routinely.

Umm hmm I'm thinking the Tele might be more suited for the style of Music I play... I just found a guy on craigslist emailed him (I'm first in line ) and he has a black American Standard Tele with Fender Molded hardshell case. But it's about an hour away. Is that a good enough deal to drive if he doesn't want to meet halfway?

A steal? Maybe not, but a good price, yes, depending on condition.

But that's low enough not to haggle with right? Or should I offer $500 dollars cash and see what happens?

Dude, ALWAYS haggle. Some guys list an item with the word "firm" next to the price, their intent, I guess is not to haggle, at least not much soon after listing, but after a couple weeks, you never know. Generally, without the word "firm", people usually put in a price that's higher than what they will accept. The longer the ad runs before selling, often the lower the seller will go. If I thought it was worth $600, I would probably offer $500. - he may come back with "the lowest I can take for it is $550" or whatever. Sometimes I just ask "what's the least amount you will take today?" on the phone when I call.

Another good bang for the buck american made Peavey tele clone is the Reactor. I paid like $140 or so with shipping for one in like new condition. Some players may change out the pickups, but after I pulled the cover off the neck pickup, I think they sound fine. I think the bridge is a tad beefier than a stock tele, the cover on the neck really muffles its tone, take it off and it sounds nice. The tuners are cheapies, but they also work fine, I have no desire to change them, plus they are light in weight (like the Klusons used in the 50's, 60's) , which IMO has a fairly significant effect on the guitar's tone. The neck and fretwork are nice, a solid axe for the money, it would be a nice spare / changeup to have when you get your '56 Gold top copy or whatever main axe later on.

Alright Question........ Let's just say a certain someone decided to hate strats cuz everybody played them and then a certain someone's uncle came over with his 80's Zion Strat and this certain someone got a very bad strat bug but they were getting ready to buy a tele. What would you tell this certain someone?

That's how I operate when I list on CL...

until I put "firm" in my ad, my bottom line price is probably about 60-80% of what I'm listing for. I listed a guitar at $500 once that I would've sold the moment I was offered $400.

If the guy is asking $600 I would go ahead and offer $500. If he says "$550" then you just got a $50 discount.
