From what I understand one of the things they're trying to figure out is why our universe is dominated by matter. Supposedly the big bang resulted in equal parts matter and antimatter but if those particles annihilated each other then all that would be left is a bunch of photons. It seems that CP-violation has something to do with it but I don't quite grasp all the jargon.
