I don't think messing with pedals 3 rows deep would be convenient.

That much stuff is good for making sounds, not much else. I do not mean this as an insult to anyone here, but most P&W guitarists (and 89% of guitarists in CCM) use so many effects because they are only used as part of the rhythm section, they can't do more than play about five chords, or both.

There's no way I would get through all that stuff in one gig. The most I have ever used (even when I was just getting into playing) was four pedals. Even if one is a tuner, one an EQ, and one a A/B switch, that still leaves about ten pedals. It looks like he has two delays - who needs two delays?

I really don't mean to offend anyone, I honestly don't. I just find the state of playing in P&W and CCM to be pretty low.

I like the choice of pedals, more straightforward than I like, but a nice selection.

Three delays, always nice. DD-5 is his main delay I believe, DD-20 is for songs that need a specific BPM saved, DL4 for special delays and dual delays (dotted 8th/quarter etc.).

Super Duper 2 in 1 as a line driver. Some nice overdrives.

Not much in the way of "special" effects.

I don't think it's too much... When I use my full big pedal board it has 19 pedals in it, and yes I use every one of those in a gig... And believe it or not I know more than 5 chords

It sounds like you're saying people who use a lot of effects do so because they're not good enough to play without them?
Personally I don't see any relationship to the number of pedals one uses and playing ability, but maybe that's just me

Eh...different strokes for different folks. From what I've heard, Carson is a very capable guitarist who gets the most out of his effects setup. Even if the playing is simplistic, achieving an effect wall of sound with textural effects isn't something everyone can do well.

Also consider that many P&W guitarists are drawing inspiration (whether they know it or not) from U2's the Edge...and his switching system looks like this, and that's just the floorboard to control his rack and pedal board setup, which looks like this.

Back when I was playing guitar at church regularly I was using a setup with two delays, and they worked very well together. There are sounds that you can get running two delays together that a single delay pedal simply won't do.

Concerning most people that I have heard play P&W and CCM, yes, that's what I'm saying and I honestly don't mean to come off as a jerk about it - although it's probably how it sounds. If people are satisfied with strumming and adding texture for worship, more power to them. It's just that from what I have seen and heard this is about all there is.

I just think that if we are going to start picking heros it should be for how they play, not how they process their sound with 6,000 pedals.

I think for a lot of players how they process their sound is part of how they play, and I don't think that's a negative thing.

Agreed. I don't really see what quantity of pedals used really has to do with a person's ability on the instrument, other than giving them more options for sounds they are able to create.

Honestly, like I said before I use a board with 19 pedals on it, does that make me a worse player in your eyes? Am I just using those to hide behind because I can't play?

What I am trying to say is that most people I have seen and heard that use a lot of pedals do so to compensate for lack of skill. Notice I didn't say "all" or "every one." I have just noticed that most effect junkies are more into sounds than actually playing more than chords or fills for texture.

Again, I'm not meaning to come down on anyone. I guess I'll let it drop since I'm really not able to get my point across and my coming here and enjoying everyone's company and input is more important than trying to be understood on this.

My apology to anyone offended. It was not my intent.

I like a bunch of pedals, but I generally only have two on at a time.

I played electric guitar in my bedroom for like 10 years before I ever bought a pedal besides my DS-1. I actually got aaight. I was no superstar but you would say I could play. In the last 6 months I have bought about 10 pedals and I have no idea how to make music with them. Using different combinations and settings to get soft sounds, spacey sounds, pleasant sounds.... that has been a challenge. I just ordered my first digital delay this week (EH SMMH wewt). I'm sure I just opened a whole nother box of monkeys... er barrel of worms?
