| ahh i love how i posted thiss and it took 4 days for some to start up the Daniel Carson uses to much pedals stuff..
He isnt my hero because he Has so manny pedals.. Believe me.. makes the most out of everything he has.. Daniel Is FAR skilled.. and knows ALOT about what he is doing.. I watch.. listen and learn from him..
Thats why he is my hero... Seeing how he was a young one just like me when he started with tomlin.. and his whole story and background kinda match up with me and my bands lead singer.. so yea.
I just look up to him more then anything. So yea..
BTW.. Im a P&W guitars who with the DRUMS and BASS carry the Emotion of the band using my effects.. Now if im using a Dotted 8th delay.. (which 50 percent of the Songs we play do) i would be helping "CARRY THE SONG" .. so i guess if thats a Horrible way of playing guitar .. i guess im horrible.. But yea.. I play just like Daniel Carson and most hillsong guitarist... So if im horrible i guess they are too.

| At the end of the day, it's whether or not the music sticks with the listener. If you've made an impression, then you've done your job - well. I think, in that respect, Daniel Carson has done his part. In general, I think people will remember simple hooks and licks they can sing at anytime, rather than the complex stuff. It's really all about making and playing music. Does anyone know who played one of the most recognizable licks in modern music history, My Girl? |

| if pedals really made up for lack of skill, couldn't any rich guy sound as amazing as the edge? as nigel hendroff?
I mean, i'm pretty sure Daniel Carson is Chris Tomlin's guitarist for a reason aside from his pedals...
hope i didn't come off as hostile

| I think there is a clear Pedal to Chords Known and Capable of Using ratio.
1 Pedal = 10 full chords.
2 Pedals = 9 Full Chords.
3 Pedals = 6 Full Chords.
4+ = 5 or Less Full chords.

| One thing to remember with The Edge is that he is very particular about tone. He wants the same sound, usually using the same gear, as he got in the studio, never minding what it might take.
A couple of examples are the "shimmer" sound, which is achieved with a line mixer, AMS pitch shifter/delay, and reverb unit in an particular way. Could this be done with an Eventide? Probably (and he's usually had an Eventide in his rack for some other pitch effects), but it's not quite the same to him.
On the Pop album there was an effect they named the 747. Sounds like a jet taking off and landing. To make it work live, there was a second set of pedals (SDD3000, whammy, fuzz face, Wah, along with some great feedback) just for the sound. Could it have been done easier? Probably, but again, he wants to do the same thing he recorded live.
Several of the pedals are there for specific songs or eras (lovetone for Zooropa & Pop; Scrambler for Kite; Big Muff for Bullet; etc.), as are some of the rack units (Korg A3 for Achtung Baby).
There is also a lot of redundancy built into his live rig (the four 2290s, etc.)
He did actually pull back some for the Vertigo Tour, not carrying everything out with him.
If you think about it, the core of his sound has been pretty much the same since the beginning: a few nice guitars, a good AC30, and a delay with some modulation. Can't forget the blue Herdim picks either.

| I was just pointing out that a rich person could have better potential at sounding like the Edge by buying a Guitar Center.
I love the Edge, don't get me wrong. He influences a lot of my church playing, too. It is VERY hard to match his sound without being rich, though. |

| i have a lot of my board only because i LOVE effects, they're really fun to play around with
during practice is where i experiment, but during worship, i try to be more conservative
like i want to get a boss phase shifter, i dont know how i'd use that in worship, but i'm pretty sure it'd be loads of fun to have!
i still want to try a couple pedals, but for the time being, i'm at a break at buying pedals
and i still know 10+ full chords

I know, last time I was on stage I just barely plucked a string and then I didnt touch the guitar again for the rest of the song.

| I wonder what the ratio is for 7, 8 and 9 string users. |
