Candidates for Sale

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics...dates_for_sale

I'm wondering what some of you think about this article. It made me think a lot, but I'm unsure how much stock to put into it. And even if all the facts are true and unbiased in their presentation, what should that mean for us voters who disapprove of such a political system? I know these things aren't anything new, but if we all just shrug and say, "That's the way things are," they'll never change. What can one voter do in the face of such corrupt, seemingly insurmountable forces? Third party candidates are too extreme, not voting seems more apathetic than anything. So let's discuss the article itself and what kind of reaction we should have to a government that seems to be more and more controlled by those with money.

Become a politician yourself, of course.

Reminds me of "the powers." But in Christ fate can turn into destiny.

I know that's kinda a joke, but to me, that seems like it should at least be an option since we live in a democracy. Yet it just seems that any politician inevitably has to compromise their integrity and shape their opinions more rigidly into the Democrat/Republican mold for the sake of gaining any bit of power with the two established parties (see John McCain). The two party system doesn't work, because Americans are much more diverse than two parties. The only politicians brave enough to stick to their guns no matter what are either marginalized within their parties (see Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich) or into third parties with even less of a chance.

The two parties are the nexuses for many complex bearers of power. So Kucinich and Paul were really trying to take hold of millions of positions at once, not just one position, because they were trying to grab the helm of the mediators of the whole world -- "the powers," if you'll excuse me. If anything the media are the mediators between humans and the powers, defining what terms can be used to speak or think. With this complex a system no one person is in charge -- even if Nancy Pelosi were to decide tomorrow to change things she would lose all her power the moment she tried anything -- and if nobody has any power then we're caught up in Fate, the battle between a bunch of forces that are wholly out of our control. Jesus came to turn Fate into Destiny.
