Saw it last night.
As a Holmes movie, I hated it.
As a regular film, it was alright.
Plus side: loved the music. loved the scenery and the costumes - thought they were fantastic. The story was alright, not great. Acting was decent.
Down side: I could never see Doyle writing something like this. At all. Which was frustrating. The characters disappointed me greatly. The story was alright, not great. I didn't find it to be funny at all. There were a couple moments where I knew there was supposed to be some humor, but it never drew a genuine laugh from me.
Also, I found it to be very forgettable all around. I saw it less then 12 hours ago, and already my memory is hazy. Nothing really made it stand out in any way, other then it's flaws.
I was really looking forward to this. Guy Ritchie is pretty good, I LOVE RD Jr, and Sherlock Holmes is one of my favourite series. However, after reading some reviews I immediately dropped my standards. Had to go see it because I needed to know, but was expecting to be disappointed.

I really don't like this statement. If you are basing a movie on a book, but the basic stuff from the book won't translate, then why are you making the movie?
I would have been much happier with the movie if it didn't try to have a Holmes connection. Even still, I think it was only an average film, but I wouldn't have started complaining the moment I left the theatre.
