Favre or Packers at Fault?

i know both sides have waffled on this, but who is really at fault here. favre obviously waffled on his retirement, but the packers waffled on what would happen if favre returned. who is really at fault here for the media circus? i thought this article was pretty good...

That was a good article...I don't really know who's at fault (more), it's just sorta a mess now.

One thing I know: I cannot imagine Favre on another team...not saying it won't happen, but almost literally my entire life Favre's been on the Packers, and it would be so incredibly strange for him to be somewhere else (most of all the Bears).

I really don't understand the problem with issuing Favre a helmet and jersey and taking it one day at a time. He had a great year last year, and if he continues I don't see where the Packers are hurt by any of it (other than the media circus that always follows such events)

I really hope he doesn't play anywhere else. Memories of Franco Harris playing out the string in Seattle, Tony Dorsett in Denver, Joe Montana in KC...Favre in ???

I DO know I'm ready for some football!

I think it couldve been worked out between the two if the media wasnt involved. But honestly i love Brett, but the blame should go to him.It was his decision to retire(and i honestly think it was the right time.).I dont agree with everything the Packers have done/said,but i do think it was a good idea to not release him and not to let him back as a starter virtually forcing him to stay retired and i think thats the right thing for him right now.Of course hes gonna want to play, hes Favre and hes a fighter, but its time to enjoy what he accomplished.I think come season start Favre is gonna still be in retirement or at least i hope thats what happens.

yea, i do think that favre made a hurried decision to retire...however...i kinda agree w/ the article. if he is the best qb on the roster, then what will it hurt the packers? if rodgers is the better qb, then why are they so worried about him going to another nfc central team? if favre gives them the best chance to win now, then play him, then let rodgers and favre play it out and see who comes out on top. who knows, it might help rodgers too.

It would be just plain stupid to let Favre start this year in my opinion. Everything they have invested in Aaron Rodgers would be lost with no compensation. If Farve starts, Rodgers leaves. He is a free agent at the end of the year. If he leaves, they start training a new quarterback from scratch. They no longer have the guy who studied under Brett Favre for 3 years. The guy who has already shown that he can come in and lead a team.

The article is wrong to assume that the better QB should start. The future is important here, not just the present.

Additionally, It does matter where Favre is traded if he is. You do not trade assets to division rivals if you can help it. Regardless of who it is. Why? Because who knows that is going to happen? Nobody does. Favre could have his worst year ever, or his best year ever. You just don't do that. There is a long standing history of that being true.

Though yes, it is true that the Packers have been deceitful. That is lame. But Favre hasn't exactly come off looking like a good guy here.

+1 Art. The Packers camp has run foul, but the reality is that this whole thing stinks. Honestly I think it's time for Farve to relax, pick up a clipboard and support Aaron Rodgers, or maybe just go home and enjoy his millions.

Even said, I don't think you can blame Brett for wanting to play.

Also, whether it was in Green Bay or not, if you were definite starting-caliber QB regardless of age, wouldn't you want to be playing?

Sure...but I wouldn't have retired either.

So i just read on Yahoo! that they've offered Favre a $20 million buyout to stay retired.I honestly hope he just takes it and looks back on his career.I do not want to see him in another uniform.

I wish someone would pay me $20 million to not play professional football.

But this obviously has nothing to do with Favre needing the money. Favre is a football player, he wants to play football. Had Green Bay been able to keep the entire fiasco private, paying him off to stay retired would have saved their image and that of an NFL legend. But by now, both are already tarnished, and this strikes me as a classless move that digs the Pack deeper and deeper into their hole of shame. Let Favre play football. He could even win a super bowl with another team and it wouldn't change the fact that he will always be remembered as a Packer.
