SUMMER DISPOSABLE CHALLENGE!!! 7/1 - 9/12

The anticipated disposable camera challenge. Your challenge, take the next two months, and shoot some disposable cameras!

THE RULES:
Using any standard disposable camera, go and shoot whatever you like. When you process your film, get the images in disc or make scans yourself, and upload and enter up to two of your favorite pictures in any of the four categories, which means up to 8 images, total. No digging up old images if you have them, no using any images taken using anything other than a disposable one-time use camera. Digital post-processing of images is not prohibited, but should be limited to any necessary image repair (removing dust, scratches), and cropping/resizing. This is to keep the playing field even, so to speak. You may shoot multiple cameras if you so choose, but keep in mind you will only be allowed to enter a maximum of two images in each category.

As long as the camera used is a standard 35mm disposable or on-time use camera, there are NO LIMITS on what other equipment (lighting, tripods, filters, scenery elements, etc.) is used.

The images in each category will then compete for the top slots in voting threads that will run for two weeks following the conclusion of submission. The winning two images from each category will go head-to-head in an uber-battle for the win, where the respective artists will have a week or two to then be permitted to go as nuts on the post-processing, or not, as they would like, followed by a vote for the winner(s?).

The prizes for winning? I have no idea.

The Categories Are:

People
-Portraits, candids, documentary, groups, individuals, posed or not, here's for all the pictures where the main focus is people.

Nature
-Flora, fauna, landscapes, seascapes, close up, far away, anything in the natural world.

Still Life
-Objects, arrangements, abstractions, a few of your favorite things.

Places/Events
-Cityscape, architecture, wherever you happen to be, whatever happens to be going on.

All images are due September 1st. Enter them right here in this thread.

Have fun!

I've had these disposables sitting near my computer for a while waiting for this challenge. Its about time! (Maybe with a 2 month time frame I can actually finish this one.)

I've searched, but I can't seem to find much information.

Does anyone know typical characteristics of a disposable camera? Focal length? Aperture? Do they have a variable shutter speed, or constant? They don't even have a focusing mechanism, do they?

Anyone know?

The only information I am sure about is that each disposable will say right on it what the shutter speed is.

Disposable cameras tend to be very wide angle (field of view on most, I'd guess, is similar to a 28mm-35mm lens). From what I've read, they vary between F/16 and F/8, and shutter speeds between 1/60 and 1/125.

the only information mine gives me is 800 speed, 27 exposures (19 left), and it has a flash.

The "800 speed" is referring to ISO 800.

Ok, just to make sure this is clear....
Are we able to use anything else to shoot along with it? i.e. lights, reflectors, viewfinders (heh)?
Or is it purely "take your camera, use what is there, snap it"?

Just my personal opinion:

If we are going be "keeping the playing field even" by ruling out any photo manipulation then I think it might need to be kept that way all around. So in my opinion we should probably just keep it to "take this camera and use it." But at the same time I do not think it would be out of the question to be able to pose the photo (If that is what you mean by "use what is there").

Then again, we will see what the others have to say.

I just mean lighting, no posing...that was already expressed.
I just want to make sure we all know what we can and can't do.

Lights are pretty advanced it seems for a disposable camera challenge. But that's just me.
