HELP!!! I need help with Algebra!

HELP!!! I've been on this question in my work for the last four days, and I can't figure it out!

It's this one:
x2 + x/2=3 i need to factor it out so it's like the following: x2 + 8x + 16=(x+4)2

help!

My algebra is extra rusty, but I could only factor it to get

(2x-3)(x+2)=0

I'm not sure if the answer that you're supposed to get is correct because for x^2 +8x+16=(x+4)^2 all numbers for x make the equation true, but that's not the case for x^2+x/2=3.

Question More algebra problems!!! :thumbsdn:

Okay, I need help with "Bodies in Motion" as in: distance, rate, & time...

A person climbs to the top of a mountain at the rate of 1.5 km/h and down the same way at a rate of 4.5 km/h. If he is gone for 6 hours, how far did he travel from camp to the top of the mountain?

Question Bodies In Motion/Area/Perimeter :whoa:

Is there anyone who is like a wizard at maths, because I need heaps of help!
Exclamation

If you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

A rectangular piece of wood is 12cm longer than it is wide. A strip 1 cm wide is cut off all around. This decreases the area by 120 cm². What were the original dimensions?

It gives these details:
w=original width
l=w+12=original length

w-2cm=new width
w+(12cm-2cm)=w+10cm=new length

Thanks
