I have Vista, but I'd rather have XP. Our computer crashed late last year, and we had to have it replaced.

I frequently download songs off ripit.com.au and my computer screws up so I only get parts of the song... all I have to say about this is don't do vista

In a nutshell, I'd say that you should try turning off wireless and plugging in your laptop to the router. If that solves your problems, I'd advise maybe replacing your wireless router. Something seems a little odd with that.

my firefox does the same thing on the wife's computer. Its something inherent to firefox. Hate to say it, but I may switch back to IE. My wife already has, and she was a die hard firefox fan prior to this. Earlier versions of firefox 2 do not seem to have this.

Out of curiosity, are either of your computer's HP's?

What about trying out FF3? I know it's in Beta, but it's been really stable for me

The only thing is that she says IE stops working, as well.

exact same problem as my wife. If you do not use FF it does not occur.

Ah, I didn't understand that part. Quite interesting.

And as Andrew said, FF3 might be at least worth a shot. It's at RC1 right now.

Mom's laptop is an HP, mine is a Toshiba. I might try FF3 later and see if that helps... I've been thinking about trying it out anyway.

SPI problem, possibly....

Your best solution is to call your isp and freak out on the phone until they send someone out to replace your hardware, in my opinion.
