Me trying metal vocals.

This is me trying the build-up on Undying Sacrifice [friend's band] song, Untitled. This is when my friend builds-up and screams on the intro that occurs after the beginning verse. I'll be needing some critiquing.

Do you mean having silence in the room I recorded in?

Umm... keep practicing... to be honest... that was pretty bad... but everybody has to start somewhere... It sounds to me like you lost vocal support at the end of the last scream... like you didn't finish it... when you do the "trail offs" in screams... that's really where you have to push your throat the hardest to maintain the volume...

Really the two biggest problems that I hear with this is that.. you're not singing, you're talking... if you do it more... musically(?), you'll probably get better results...

Second, you really need to learn to work on enunciation and flow... it's really hard to understand you... in fact, I have no idea what you are trying to say.

I could tell that I was off balanced. As for strength of screaming, does it still sound "raw" as compared to most singers that do metal vocals?

it sounds like you haven't built up any strength in your vocal chords... ... keep practicing though, it's the only way you'll ever get there... also, if you feel any discomfort stop immediately... at this point you've already done enough damage to your vocal chords to potentially mute you when you're older... don't be too afraid though, it's an EXTREMELY minute chance, but you definitely don't wanna make it worse... if you reach this point, don't give it another go until at least the next day... eventually you'll start to build up to more, but it takes time... But I give you this info with the knowlegde that you ARE damaging your vocal chords and you have to realise you're making this decision to damage them... That being said, I have made this decision too... I don't scream a whole lot, but I do when i feel it's necessary in a song... Just don't want you walking around hurting yourself and now knowing it...

Dude, I would deffinatly (again recomend the Zen of Screaming for both singing and screaming. The guy from Dead Poetic is proof that she teaches good singing (and screaming) technique.

Did Melissa Cross also teach the lead singer of Blindside?

No, not that I know of, at least in "Silence" and "About a Burning Fire." I'm not familiar with any of his new songs, so I wouldn't know. I have been listening to a lot of Blindside recently, and from what I know he does not use proper technique (it sounds amazing, though). My range and tone is verry similar to his, and I've been learning how to scream like him, and it is kinda tricky, but I'm getting better.
