Don't Forget

"Don't Forget"
By Zach Wood
Matthew 27:50
And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

Is there anyone out there that is forgetful? If you are anything like me, it can be rather frustrating to be forgetful a lot. It is not that I do it purposely, but I forget things people say to me. It is many times embarrassing to be in a conversation in which the person is updating me on some news and I have forgotten what they originally told me about the situation. I do not like being forgetful. I wish sometimes I had the greatest memory in the world. Anyone else share with me in this frustration? I am sure many of you do.

Many of us tend to be forgetful. It is just part of being human. Sometimes, we just have to work at being better about this. There are times when we have to really focus on what others are saying and not be distracted by other things going on around us.

As we near upon Memorial Day, I am reminded at how often I forget the sacrifice others have made for my freedom. I see it, as many others do, as just another three day weekend to enjoy with my family. I do not realize how precious and important the sacrifices that were made for me to have freedom in this country. I need to be reminded of that and be more thankful.

Another event that I become forgetful of is the death of my Savior Jesus Christ. I am often forgetful of how much He went through to offer me eternal life. Jesus hung on that Cross and died a brutal death to show you and me love like nothing we have ever seen before. After Christ died, everything changed. He did that to open a pathway for us to come to know Him more intimately. However, we are often forgetful and live like nothing ever happened. I do not want to live my life like His death was just another event in history. It was real and it happened and I need to be more mindful of what He did for me.

I encourage you to be reminded of the greatest sacrifice that was ever made for us. Jesus Christ willingly laid down His life so that we might have true life through Him. Remembering those who died to give us freedom is very important, but the most important event we must remember is that our Savior gave up His life to give us life.
