| Photo Challenge #9 VOTING Can someone please sticky this?
Also, I have my doubts about xSomeday's entry. See the entry thread. Quote: |

The subject can be anything. Include the photo that you're trying to emulate along with your reproduction.
It doesn't have to be anything extremely hard from a super genius photographer - judging will be based on how closely you replicated the original photo, so be easy on yourselves. Just find a good photo that doesn't seem to be out of your skill level, but make sure it pushes you to learn something new.
How's this sound?
p.s. the photo can be from anywhere. I think the above might have made it sound like you were to choose a fellow CGRer's photo.
p.p.s Photo must be taken with the expressed time frame in the subject title.

| Time for a critique. I'm gonna jump on being first so I'm just repeating what everyone else says.
Personally, I think all of the entries have some issues (including mine). But I voted for Sean.thompson. I voted for this one because it was, I feel, the closest looking to the original while also keeping the same mood and feel. However, some problems: Yours is too underexposed. There's really nothing white in the photo, and in the original there's those bright white pants and the light reflecting off of the guitar. Your pose could also have been a bit more upright. You look a little too relaxed in comparison, and your arm is resting on your leg when it should be held up. Back to lighting, it's hard to even tell there's a guitar there. Finding some way to cast some light just on the guitar would have been ideal. But overall, I think it's a pretty good attempt at the recreation, so I voted for it. Quote: airsoft sniper Original Reproduction | They're not very similar at all. First, the original was taken at the bottom of a hill and yours was taken at the top. There are no trees in the original like yours, and there are clouds in the original unlike yours. The colors are completely different as well. Your sky isn't as blue and grass isn't as green, which is what really makes that original photo what it is. I really don't see any similarities at all other than the presence of sky and grass. I was confused about this entry, but I made an assumption on what was going on. If I have it wrong somehow, then let me know.
Your photo is good in and of itself. It's actually great. But, as a reproduction of the original, it just seems pretty far off. The original is square and cuts off parts of the petals. It's also leaning towards the left. Yours isn't square and it's leaning towards the right. Also the original has a warmer look to it while yours doesn't because of the dark green background. Overall, the feel just doesn't ring true to the original. It feels like two completely separate photos that happen to have a similar subject, which is not what the challenge was. Quote: Ordinary Sarah Original Reproduction | I like the original a lot, and I think you made a pretty good attempt at recreating it, and I almost voted for it. However, there's some problems too. In general, your photo is blown out in a lot of places. Your lighting was obviously much more harsh and spotty than the original (understandable that this is sometimes uncontrollable, especially outside, but a critique is a critique). Your pose is actually really good compared to the original. I do wish however that your facial expression was more.... joyous? Excited? Hepburn looks like she's having fun. You look like someone just threw you in the air and weren't sure how it happened . Also, I kinda wish you were wearing a long dress like Hepburn since that's one of the things that makes the original so great. Back over to the technical side, your background is busier than the original, thus it's harder to focus on the subject. Also the original was taken at a lower angle to the ground and it looks like a longer focal length. If you were to do it again, I'd put the camera lower and zoom in a little. Quote: ApparentlyNothing Original Reproduction | Self critique: my lighting was completely off. In the original, the woman was in the shadows and the background was better lit. In mine, due to limitations of the location, I ended up in the sunlight and the background was in the shade. Also I think the background in the original was further away compared to mine... again, limitation of the location. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, though I know it could definitely be better. Quote: Jump5fan Original Reproduction | The original was taken from above. You took yours from the side. I would have also cropped it to a square to keep with the original. Yours isn't quite in focus enough. It looks like there's this yellowish haze covering your photo. It could use some color correction and a little added contrast. In the end, you took a photo of the boring side of the flower instead of the more interesting top like the original. |

It was taken at night on my front porch, after a drink (or two), while it was raining cats and dogs and I was trying to do something to get a girl off my mind (what's more blues than that! )
Also, it is a shiny guitar (metal body reso), but I do not own a pair of white pants...

As for my vote... I vote for Sarah's. Why? Well, I don't know. It's just the one that speaks to me. The original makes me feel the happiness that is in the picture, and the re-creation makes me feel the same happiness. Also, How many takes did it take to get the jump just right? |

Still...I think he did a good job on the photo

| For the record (I know I told Nate this in a UC), that isn't me in my entry. That is my younger sister. =)
Thanks for the critique, Jon! |

I chose Sarah by a nose over App.No., and he was by a nose over Sean. Thompson. Yes, they all have their flaws. Sarah's just captures the mood best in my opinion. |

| I also voted for Sarah's.
I think the way you could've made it better would to have been at a lower angle. Also, if you could've cropped the picture so there was not as much 'busy-ness' in the background would have been another thing to consder, as it kind of loses my attention with all the other things to look at. I love the lighting though, and it's happy-ish

| I voted for Sean's. I love the feel, and I love the original he picked. Good stuff.
Oh, and I have to say that I was really skeptical about this challenge... but I think it turned out pretty awesome. |
