So you are asserting that the rust belt doesn't have large swaths of empty houses and office buildings and areas worth far less (in adjusted dollars) than they once were?

No. I am asserting that the free market (with SOME government empowerment and as little as possible interference) will be the most effective mechanism to convert the rust belt to new and viable enterprises.

OK. Where's your support.

It seemed like, in your previous post, you felt you were supporting such an assertion. However all your previous post's claims establishes is that, in one instance, in one part of the region, the economic conditions improved from some low point.

Though I'm not sure your claim can be proven even if it is true... as we cannot know that there is not an untried option more effective... though you've yet to support that its the most effective tried market.

BTW, what is "free market" in this context and how does it contrast to a non-free one. I was of the understanding that "revitilizations" were often kicked off by government.

Actually what you are calling "kicked off by government" are often tax incentives... otherwise known as removing the burden of government, albeit temporary. And I did acknowledge this as government playing a role.

Well, moving the tax burden to others; but as I understand the region, there are also buildings being leased out a $1 per year to companies; government moneys being spent on renovation, etc.

I don't have a problem with that.
