So, I sold my 300 f4 tokina and was going to get a 70-200 f4 L to use for sports. The Tokina got me some good pictures but the focusing was SSSSLLLOOOOWWWW. I needed the focus speed of an L glass, but was really going to miss the extra 100mm of reach. The more I thought of it, however, I realized that it would be an unnecessary purchase. I am the sports photographer for my school, but they already have a 70-200 2.8.
So, I thought about it, for a bit and decided to do this...I had about 650 to spend. I found a 28-70 2.8 Sigma on KEH. I've also wanted to get a battery grip for my 30D. Rather than spending 450-550 on the 70-200, I used that same amount to get the 28-70 AND a battery grip...AND I've got money left over...
So, later in the year (I don't shoot sports again until football season) I will be buying a 1.4x teleconverter, so I'll still have the reach (almost 300mm) I need along with the focus speed...and more stuff for me
I'll post some pictures when the stuff comes.
