John McCain's Moderate Policy

How much of a chance does John McCain really have with his moderate policy? Will it get him more votes from both the right and the left, since he agrees with both sides on certain issues, or will it get him less votes from the right and left due to his disagreement with both sides on certain issues? He either makes the Republican win a necessity or impossibility. Which do you think it is?

Being moderate generally helps a candidate.

There are two schools of thought on how to get votes:

1) Winover the undecideds (moderates)
2) Energize your base.

Bush has a 29% approval. Looking like a far-right republican will not energize the base as well as it did 8 years ago, and it will alienate people acceptingof it before.

Playing the moderate won't cost him many republican votes, but will garner him a shot at the moderates... I think it's the right strategy.

Besides: the Reps already got to voice their opinion on who they liked more... McCain won the primaries.
