| How many of you.... Have a chastity/purity ring? Me and 7 other dudes were on our youth group's trip to Hershey for a convention, and the preacher, Pat Schatsline(Spelling?) talked about being faithful to your wife. Afterwards, when we were all chilling at the mall, and we were like "BRO! Let's get purity rings!!" we all agreed, went to a jewelry kiosk, and all bought rings. We all wear them on our left hands on our ring fingers. I like mine....jesus fishes, on a spinner ring.
Do you have one? If so, what is your story on it? |

| I think he means future wives -- an "I'm saving myself for marriage" ring or something. |

But I think I need to get a new one soon, the gold paint on it is getting scraped off.

| Statistically, that big "purity" push in recent years (the one spearheaded by the Bush administration) has been largely ineffective.
Evangelical Christian teenagers are just as likely to engage in premarital sex as the rest of the population.

| I personally don't have one. It's not that I'm boycotting it, I just never got into those kind of things. Same with the WWJD stuff. I never had any kind of bracelet or shirt. |

| I had a "purity" ring. I know several people who have called they "chastity" rings or "promise" rings as well.
For me, however the ring was more than a symbol of saving myself for my husband. I chose to call it a purity ring because, as a young Christian, I wanted a visible symbol of not just my convictions to present myself in sexual purity to my husband, but also as a reminder of the purity of my heart before God because of Hi gift of salvation. So the ring wasn't just a symbol of physical purity before man, but spiritual purity before God. I no longer wear it because a) I no longer feel a need to have a symbol of those things that is visible to the eye and b) the stone fell out, which is kind of sad because it was a pretty ring and I had taken to wearing it as my only real piece of jewelry...oh well, it's not like it was a super expensive piece of jewelry, but sometimes I do miss that pretty little ring (it wasn't a purity ring with a catchy saying on it, it was a real diamond and sapphire ring).
I'm fairly neutral on the whole purity ring thing. If you feel as if you need that then so be it, but it's not like God's going to smite you with his "Purity Ring Stick" if you don't.

Nor does it mean that it is not worth striving for. For all of you young people contemplating this issue I urge you to do anything and everything that will improve your chances of making it to mariage with your purity intact. |

Do you have one? If so, what is your story on it? | I used to have one, then it fell into a toilet and I lost it, but I'm gonna replace it.
The story of my chastity ring is this.
I had been dealing with some rough issues in my life. Literally ripping this dude apart.
So, what do I do, I run to Jesus... looking for help. I got into some youth meeting and young adult meetings... next thing I know, I'm headed off to a retreat... 3 days, with nothing but God, the word and the food they supplied, scary.
I was praying for God to help me keep myself for the right one until I got married. I was trying to figure out a way to hold myself to it, since i've been tempted many times. (Many many) and then God answered my prayer. During one of the sessions... we were giving rings to promise to God we would stay pure.. they were to go on the same finger as if we were married. Technically married to the body of Christ. So, I found it to be awesome, but, hilarrious thing happened... right in front of all the leader ship... and my friends.
I put the ring on, and close my hand. (I got a big hand by the way.) The ring fit me fine with a little bit of space. I put it on and close my hand, snap it breaks in half. What a wierd circumstance right? well, in the end, my parents replaced that one with a silver ring that had the stars of david on it, and it was purity ring too! Yay, but I lost that one, and am going to replace it.
