I absolutely love Delta blues music. Ever have since I first heard Glenn Kaiser & Darrell mansfield do it.
Since then I've discovered a lot of great players. Christian ones include Blind Willie Johnson, Gypsy Carns, and of course Glenn & Darrell.
Absolutely I love the delta blues. From a historical perspective you should become familiar with Robert Johnson and his music as well as the folk legend surrounding his tragic and short life. Son House was a great player and one could go on and on naming the original blues greats.I'm a huge fan of Blind Willie Johnson who has influenced countless slide guitar players such as Ry Cooder and others to this day.
I'm happy to see someone who is interested in the delta blues. It seems that too many people today think that the blues begins and ends with the whole Stevie Ray Vaughn era and school of recent blues music. What Glen Kaiser and Darrell Mansfield have done is preserve and add their own take on a great roots music tradition that so many people have ignored. I was very happy indeed when they released ' Trimmed and Burnin' back in the early 90's.
I love it. I discovered it about a few years ago when I heard Son House for the first time, and it just about brought a tear to my eye. Just the raw emotion these guys had. You don't see that nowadays....
But A few of my favorites are Son House, Charlie Patton, Brownie McGee, Rev. Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Sam Chatmon and Bukka White to name a few. I could never get into Robert Johnson tho, maybe because of this , idk........
