"Fine Grain Crack"?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Seagull-M6-Acoust...:B:SRCH:CA:101

The price is right for this guitar, but the fact that it's cracked makes me nervous. I'm pretty sure I won't buy it anyway, BUT how serious do you think this crack is/will it affect the playability/how hard would it be to repair, or is it even possible to tell just from pictures?

looks like he might have dropped it on that side the battery holder was cracked too. He said he glued it to fix. im not sure about its effect on the guitar's sound but 200 is a steal if it doesnt mess with the sound.

Is it bad that I saw the title of this thread and thought it was about drugs?

I wouldn't even bother to repair it at that price. The battery holder could be replaced but since the guitar is already cracked I'm thinking duct tape would do just as well. I'm tempted and I don't even need it. Having a beater that has decent electronics at that price is not a bad thing.

It's a good idea to repair the crack in the top because it might get bigger otherwise. It may sound okay now but if it gets bigger it could affect the tone and the integrity of the guitar. If that crack has never been repaired, I would also be concerned about the crack getting worse in shipment. I would be leary about buying a guitar with a crack without being able to see it and play it. You may get a great deal; but great deals often come with risks.

I'd be tempted to properly humidify the guitar for a while, like maybe a year, and see if the crack continued to worsen before getting too concerned about it.

I need another guitar like a hole in my head but that one's going to be on my watch list. I sure hope someone else buys it.

Yeah, it's too bad I need a solid first guitar, not just a beater.

I think that pretty much sums up what I was thinking. If it was nearby and I could actually go see it myself then there would be a much better chance I would buy it.

Thanks for the advice guys, it is much appreciated!

I wouldnt touch it with a ten foot pole. If its a crack, its very possible that it will get worse. Acoustics are fairly fragile and it is primarily in the Top, that the sound is produced. I wouldnt start off my experience with a handy cap.

I would not worry about it myself at all. It is a hair of a crack and should not effect the sound or integrity. It would be easy to repair and it would be good.
