The Ultimates...for all of you Marvel Guys

I just finished the Ultimates 2....and wowee. That series was amazing. I'm definitely gonna hold on to it for awhile and go re-read some of those stories.

The art was really sweet too. Really consistent and easy to follow for the most part. Realistic, yet not too gritty.

I have The Ultimates in hardcover, and plan to get The Ultimates 2 in hardcover as well. The only thing I don't like about Mark Millar's writing on it is his might-makes-right philosophy, and Bryan Hitch, though he takes far too long to complete a comic book, is a fantastic artist.

I've enjoyed The Ultimates. Heck, I even enjoyed the first movie...

Well, he's stated in interviews that because Cap and his group eventually defeat the Liberators (which they do by being more brutal), it means their philosophy and morality is superior. Also, his infamous comment about how because Iron Man and his Pro-Reg people won in Civil War, it means Stark was right. Morally. Of course, a lot of The Ultimates is satire. At least, I hope so. Because otherwise, it's about the comic book equivalent of Commando.

This isn't saying I don't enjoy the series (as I said, I own the first hardcover and am planning on buying the second now that I've read all the issues), just that I have reservations about some of the moral implications.

Ah, that makes sense. Yeah, that is pretty crazy that he said that. I never read the Civil War stuff, but the idea that the powerful always win is not a good one.

I'm unsure of my opinions of Mark Millar at this point. I like a lot of his writing, but some of the heavy-handed (self-aware) liberal messages wear me down after awhile. It's good to know he still loves to see Cap kick butt.

Link pwease. I think you might have misinterpreted Millar. He's far too liberal to believe those naked sentiments.

I haven't picked up the recent Ultimates storyline, but everything before that I loved, even though they made Jarvis gay. It's a much more satisfying superhero world than the mainstream Marvel universe.

I haven't read Ultimates 3 either, but I hear it's not as good. The reviews were like 3/10 (so I hear). It was a different team making it, and it was a generic good guy/bad guy story.

I picked up The Ultimates 1 recently, but I finished it. My sister had part 2 at her house, but I didn't take it.

Has anyone read Ultimates 3 yet?

That makes me sad. I had a feeling that would happen after they changed the team working on it, but being the eternal optimist, I had held out hope. I'll have to pick it up for myself.
