| Gibson Les Paul Standard Double Cut Plus Product:
2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard Double Cut Plus.
Price:
Gift. Retail around $1600, IIRC.
Experience:
5 years, 3 years seriously. I play blues/rock. Gary Moore type tones. I play it through a Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. and a Blackheart BH5H. Avatar 1x12, loaded with a Hellatone 30.
Lots of od/distortion pedals.
Features:
498 and 490 pickups, one volume, one tone. Three way toggle switch, grover tuners.60's slim taper neck, 24 frets.
Sound:
I use this for my humbucking sounds. Ala ZZ Top. Power blues. The stock pickups are a tad muddy, but are decent. Clean sounds are alright, mild to medium OD is where this guitar really shines. Can handle the heavy stuff, but isn't made for it.
Playability:
Light, as far as LP's go. Chambered, so it still has some nice sustain. Plays very well, frets are finished very nicely. Played very well straight out of the box.
Fret access on this guitar is amazing. "Double cut".
Reliability:
I have had this guitar for over a year now. Tuning stability is great. No issues whatsoever with any of the electronics.
Overall:
This is a great instrument. My "go to" guitar. A very versatile guitar. Does a lot of stuff, I feel that it is best for mild to medium overdrive, leads. Clean it is good, but not outstanding, at least with the stock pickups. Very good candidate for P/U swaps.
Metal players should probably look elsewhere. Blues/classic rock, this is your guitar. |
