Superbook. Who remembers that show?

Does anybody here still remember the old cartoon, Superbook? I used to watch it a lot in my childhood. Does anybody here still remember that show?

I was on a Mission Trip a couple years back, and the church I was at had several old tapes. So in our free time we watched a couple episodes. The Adam and Eve episode was uncomfortably graphic for a children's cartoon.

My favorite one was the Moses Chronicles and the episode with the Apostle Paul. Even in my childhood, I imagined what if they put in Hanna-Barbera(the Japanese creators would probably give them legal copyrights in the 80s) characters like Yogi Bear, Snagglepuss, Huckleberry Hound, Peter Potomus, etc. and created a third series along with a movie in the 90s.

Interesting, huh?

P.S.
Sean, how was the Adam and Eve episode graphic?

Yes. Sorry, but it's a pet peeve when folks say "Does anyone remember this [obscure show]?" I'm sure you mean it innocently, but so often it's accompanied by someone saying "I'm probably the one who remembers this..." or "I guess I might be the only one who still likes this...?"

A co-worker and I were recently talking about the show. Interesting how a Japanese-style cartoon still depicts ancient people as white.

Just a question as I mentioned above. What would it be like if Hanna-Barbera created an All-American spinoff of Superbook but also added the actual Hanna-Barbera cartoons helping the kids and their robot?

Honestly, it would be lame.

So I just noticed lately that they've created a new series reboot of some sort. It honestly looks more toyetic, imo. I mean, trading cards?

Besides, I'd probably use better voice cast and kept the traditional anime if I were in charge. Not that I'm inferring I'd join CBN.

My first reaction to this when I saw the thread was an automatic thought of the Candle Cove story.

But yes, I do remember this, and have have quite fond memories.

So I saw the first episode. I guess it was good they put effort into the CGI, voice actors, etc. But what I had a big problem with was the character designs of Chris, Joy and Gizmo. They looked nothing like the originals. Plus, I couldn't help but wonder what if Organization XIII characters came out of no where. They did however show the original characters in the end after the credits as some sort of random homage to the original series.

I personally think the series would do better if they go deeper into the characters.

Hey. I thought I'd update this thread if it's okay.

Jeffrey, I know this is an old comment, but the reason why it had that 'white look' is because in the old VHS tape versions, they color coated the quality of the video. While in the DVD release, the original anime coloring has been restored to it's original quality, toning the skin color back to asian anime. Just my .02 cents.

Someone gave us some ancient Superbook VHS tapes, and my eldest loooooooooooooved it. It was a day of sadness/rejoicing when the VCR broke and then the television died. No more Gizmo! Huzzah!
