Web Resources for Photographers

Flickr
http://flickr.com
A great photo hosting site, a Yahoo company. There's also a myriad of different discussion groups for about every photographic topic you can imagine. Host and share your own photos, explore some great photography from people just like yourselves, and talk about it, too.

The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
http://www.gimp.org/
The most powerful free photo editing software out there. Not only is it free, but is as full featured of an editing program that most amateur digital photographers would use. Works with most OSs.

Paint.NET
http://www.getpaint.net/
Somewhere in between GIMP and Paint. In other words, it does everything you likely need it to do without any bloat. Works on Windows.

Photojojo
http://photojojo.com/
A newsletter/blog that collects a lot of cool tips, stories, DIY projects, and resources.

Monitor Calibration Tool
http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php
This image should help you adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast for optimal viewing of photos.

HDRI Tutorial
http://www.popphoto.com/howto/3038/h...ge-images.html
Helpful (long) article that teaches step-by-step how to create high dynamic range images using tone mapping.

American Society of Media Photographers
http://www.asmp.org/
They have alot of resources such as a Licensing Guide, a Terms & Conditions Module, and Model Release Forms.

PopPhoto
http://www.popphoto.com/
I like the magazine a lot, and their website has a lot of good stuff. They have camera and lens reviews as well as many other how-to's and such.

DPreview
http://www.dpreview.com/
Reviews on digital cameras and some equipment

Digital Camera Resource
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraList.php
In-depth reviews.

PlanetNeil
http://planetneil.com/tangents/
A little more geared towards wedding photography, but it covers some basics that are applicable everywhere. In particular, there's a section on getting correct exposure that teaches you how to do it the way professionals do, using manual mode, chimping, and using the histogram, and does a pretty good job of convincing you why you should. There's also a TON on using on-camera external flash.

The Digital Picture
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/
A ton of really in depth lens reviews for Canon cameras.

American Society of Media Photographers
http://www.asmp.org/
They have alot of resources such as a Licensing Guide, a Terms & Conditions Module, and Model Release Forms.
