I thought it was ok. I gave it a 7 on your list. IMO the plot could have been a little deeper

The second one was better. But that's not saying much. 6 for me.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal".

oh well, i thought it was good, and i gave it an extra point because it was hilarious watching my mom cringe every time an alien was born or killed someone.

I think the second ones better to, but it does kinda bug me how they really push the limits on the second one. Like killing the pregnant mother and such. . .

But I did really enjoy the first one, and usually don't mind watching it again.

She hasn't seen anything yet. Requiem and the original films are much worse. (This is not advice to go watch them.)
Neither one compares to Aliens, though.

Haha, if you're mom cringed every time an alien killed somebody in AVP, just wait till she sees the chestbursting scene in Alien. She'd probably faint.

I think a 0-10 scale was a bit too large. A 1-5 scale would have likely been better.

I was extremely disappointed by it. The setup was adequate (not good, but not so bad that I couldn't move past it), but then the actual AvP fights were generally awful. The use of wirework, the tendancy of the antagonists to "sqare off" against one another, etc was just a real turn-off for me.

I would hope that the sequel was better, but as I understand it they waste time developing "it sucks to be a pizza delivery driver in the middle of nowhere" when they should be developing alines, or preditors.

The reason I think Alien, Aliens, and indeed Predator work so well is that they are fundamentally simple.

Alien starts with a feeling of cold isolation. The general lack of score, the colors, the pacing, they just increase the isolation, finally introducing this predator into it. It's scary from before the alien shows up and its consistant in what is important... the cut-off-from-help mood. You know pretty much nothing of any of those characters pasts when that film ends because it doesn't matter.

Aliens too never goes terribly far into character backgrounds. It doesn't waste much time developing the characters, making them general archtypes. It sets a precept and drops our marines in to find out what happened... and I love that "heartbeat" of a motion sensor.

Predator. I don't even remember why those guys were in the jungle. Something about that girl they were dragging around?

AvP tries to create motivation and backstory... and spends way too much time dwelling on it. The giant mechanical pyramid was too campy for my taste (I like envyronment that feel real). They played really fast-and-loose with the alien's life-cycle... I think the comics had a better premise.

The first AVP was kinda dissapointing. I wish they actually showed some of the violence and the plot was cheezy. Well all the originals where kinda lame plot wise to but yeah. Havent seen Requiem yet.

Why? Because they were simple?
