| I don't think that All That Remains is a christian band and I didn't know about the singer being christian. I think that Killswitch Engage's guitarist Adam D has worked with Underoath alot. He produced there last album and is working on there new one now. |

No one here has mentioned anything about ATR being a Christian band, we have all stated that they are not. Hmm, that is interesting, thats good to know that one of KSE's members is supporting a known Christian band.

| Adam D produces tons and tons of albums, he did An Ocean Between Us. He's not a Christian, though.
He's worse onstage than the guy from ATR.

| But man, is he funny.
"Here's to all the kids with braces, for keeping it METAL!"
As for Phil Labonte, he does claim Christianity. But his behavior onstage and off would suggest otherwise. I think the bottom line is that ATR's lyrics are pretty positive across the board, without any "hidden" messages I'm aware of.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal". |

| Do you really listen to all kinds of music?
Very democratic but not very smart. Even if just to keep up with social norms.
God said to guard your heart.
even a little impurity, nastiness and blasphemy can go a long way towards hindering your walk with the Lord.
God doesn't put us in a box, on the contrary, He got us out of the coffin.
But His Word also said be wise and be holy.
Pray about it. Careful out there. |

How is listening to a variety of musical styles not very smart? What does that have to do with guarding your heart?
I've only read two of your three posts so far and they have both been extremely judgmental. Perhaps you should worry less about what other people are choosing to listen to. |

| I don't really think it should matter so much if these bands are Christian or not..
I think it just depends on how the music makes you feel and the message that you get out of it
If your heart convicts you..well, common sense.. don't listen to it but judge for yourself.. not what other people tell you or what you're "supposed to listen to" |

| I was under the personal impression that insulating yourself from the world around you was not very smart.
And I also find the idea of my musical preferences being equated to "social norms" rather laughable (though an intriguing point... perhaps if I lived in a foreign society, I would have learned to enjoy a completely different style of music...). |

| I'm keeping an eye on this thread. It's getting real close to the "pointless" phase. |

| It's been said before, but I'll emphasize the fact that I highly doubt that the lead singer is a Christian. I've seen them live. He was piss drunk, dropping f-bombs constantly (I know, I know, that doesn't mean he isn't a Christian) and was talking about "f**king people's girlfriends and not feeling bad about it".
He probably uses the whole 'I'm a Christian" thing to attract Christian metal fans or something.

| There is only 2 kinds of music! There are only 2 kinds of music!
Good or bad!
I don't care who you worship, Jesus, Satan, or the lizard god the author of the Watchmen worships.
Either it is well written and performed or it is not.
I'm a Christian and Secular recording/live sound engineer. I have heard the best and worst of both.
The really good musicians/bands are the only ones that matter when discussing music.

Anyway, in Acts 17 Paul quotes two pagan poets/philosophers, one of whom was clearly extolling Zeus. Paul seemed to have been able to read, digest, and appreciate that art without worshiping Zeus. I doubt he'd recommend a brand new Christian from Corinth spending as much time on Aratus or Homer as he would have them spend time on David.
I'm okay with secular music. I am curious why most people I know personally who are passionate about a right to listen to secular music tend to spend very little time in their Bibles, however. All that time arguing for a right with people who will never grant it to you would be better spent in the Word...

| All That Remains is one of those border-bands, if you take my meaning. They have a Christian message, but do not claim themselves to be a Christian band. Sort of like As I Lay Dying, Woe of Tyrants, In Flames, Inhale Exhale, and Living Sacrifice.
Though, I will admit that I too am a fan of All that Remains. They have a good sound.

| Perspective It is funny to me how Christians view "secular" music and how the world views "Christian" music. It seems to boil down to what comes out of our mouth and has nothing to do with the intergrity of the person. I actually have a non-christian friend who LOVES our music, and said we could make it if we would use some curse words.....seroiusly? |
