Gary Gygax has passed away

I'm not a tabletop gamer, or even a fantasy video gamer. But the influence of Dungeons & Dragons is impossible to ignore. Anyone who plays rpg or action-adventure games on video game consoles has felt his influence, and much of the standard tropes of post-Tolkien fantasy solidified via D&D.

I do play Dungeons & Dragons; this is a pretty significant loss.

There's a nice reference/homage to him in today's Questionable Content. Just thought I'd point that out.

I've been seeing little notes everywhere from fans and gamers alike. Though I've not played a game of DnD myself, it's nice that he's being remembered. I'm sure that many of the games I do play have his influence all over them.

This is a nice tribute from Penny Arcade.

I've played D&D, and many other tabletop games. Huge influence. Wow.

xkcd also has a fantastic tribute. http://xkcd.com/393/

I never got into the tabletop rpg thing, but I have many friends that were heavily involved. And you can't deny the kind of impact D&D had.
