I agree that abuse of animals is a bad thing, but if I went out into the woods and shot a deer, would you eat it with me? Will you go fishing with me and eat the trout I catch?

| I used to work at a very large slaughter house/packing plant....right after I got married, horrible job but it paid the bills.
US beef, when processed properly, is the safest in the world. I'm not sure how that was going on in Cali. At the plant were I worked we had a small army of QC people (employees of the company), in addition to a slightly larger army of FDA agents (not employees of the company), that wouldn't let anything like this happen. They were everywhere, watching everything, with the authority to shut down production at any time...and they did, often.

| Perhaps you should ask why I'm a vegetarian first?
I don't really see how those verses apply, as I do not have a problem with animals being killed for human consumption...if it is done humanely. When you shoot a deer, do you shoot to kill? Or do you injure it, let it suffer, THEN eat it?
I would most likely eat a fish you had caught.....the deer however, no. After going without meat for over a year, I am afraid it would make my cholesterol go through the roof. |

| Community Supported Agriculture is the answer. Not more regulation. Not vegetarianism, either. |

| I agree, but in some areas, that isn't an option. We tried to find something close to us here, but we couldn't.....so we stopped eating meat. Vegetarianism works for us. |

| I don't think i could give up meat....
I mean, one word: bacon. Bacon is the food that makes all other foods worth eating.
Don't like that cheeseburger? Throw bacon on it.
Something missing from that salad? Try it with some bacon.
Strawberry milkshake doing nothing for you? How about a strawberry and bacon smoothie.
Oh yeah, you're feeling me...

| What's the big deal? The article seems to imply that as far as anyone can tell with any degree of certainty, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the cows other than the fact that some _______ beat them before killing them.

Often anytime there is a food recall, 99.9% is safe, but why risk that .1%

| If you've seen the movie "Super Size me" the author has a book called "Don't Eat This Book" where he talks about how (big surprise) GREED is what motivates the beef industry, the government hires "good ol boys" from the Beef industry to "Watch dog" the industry (might as well put Britney Spears in Charge evaluating baby sitters). People put the love of money over safety (people are losing arms in those plants), jobs ( they hire illegal imagrants, etc) and in the end we get bad beef. Oh, the "worst" beef is used in our School lunch programs. Its a great book. |

It's like "not being able to walk" is a symptom of both "mad cow disease" and "guy who beats the crap out of his animals." Seems pretty obvious which was the case in this story.

| We need to not be so sure of our opinions. I say U.S. beef sucks because it's largely treated with hormones/all sorts of nasty stuff. I've never been to a processing plant but by all accounts they are miserable, inhumane places at best. God calls us to be good stewards. They wouldn't recall that much beef unless there was a fear that something was wrong with it.
